Mona Mobley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home, LLC - Pensacola on Feb. 17, 2026.
Mona Lejeune Mobley, 92, passed to eternal life on February 6, 2026, surrounded by family. Mona was born August 29, 1933, in Lucedale, Mississippi, to Cecil and Birdie Lee McLeod. A 1951 graduate of Lucedale High School, she was active in Band, F.H.A., Who's Who and many other school activities. She attended Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tennessee, where she met Harold Mobley of Lexington, Kentucky. They married at Rocky Creek Church of Christ on December 19, 1952.

The couple lived in Jackson, Mississippi, Lueders, Knox City and Slaton, Texas, where Stephen, Tamara and Twayne were born. Mona devoted herself to homemaking and raising their children. In 1961, Harold and Mona answered a call to missionary service in Florence, Italy where their youngest child, Timothy, was born. They spent the next decade learning the language and culture, ministering among Italians.

In 1971, the family moved to Montreal, Canada, serving with the Lachine Church of Christ and establishing an Italian-speaking congregation. After five years, they returned to Texas to work with the 10th and Broad Church of Christ in Wichita Falls. In 1979, the Mobleys moved to work with the Channelview Church of Christ, Texas, before Harold's ministry brought them to Pensacola, Florida, in 1989, where they served with the Gateway Church of Christ, and later with the Warrington Church of Christ.

Mona was an accomplished Bible teacher, lecturer and workshop speaker. She authored religious articles and published five books. "Joyful Hospitality" was widely adopted by ladies' classes as an in-depth biblical study on hospitality, with a section on recipes and entertainment. She touched the lives of orphans, elderly, and hospitalized children in Ukraine through the Humanitarian Relief International organization which she founded in the late 90s. Her faith, teaching and hospitality touched many lives over many continents over decades of ministry. Among her passions were a love for family first and foremost, for travel, for sewing, needlework, crafts, cooking, and hunting for treasures in second-hand stores.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; her brother Mackie McLeod; her son Stephen; and grandson Connor Mobley. Mona is survived by her sisters Roci Cottrell of Mobile, AL., and Cassandra Devitt of Virginia; daughter Tamara Tate and husband Tim; son Harold Twayne Mobley and wife Jeri of Pensacola; son Timothy Mobley and wife Corey of Blairsville, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Maren, Jacob, Savannah, Nathan, Amber, Nicholas, Lance and Jade; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In the words of her beloved husband, "everyone loved Mona".

Those who wish to remember Mona in a special way may make a gift in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital found at (http://www.stjude.org/donate/srch/st-jude-donation.html) or (800) 608-3023 as well as Emerald Coast Hospice.
