Viola Mondell Bowers Brasington, 96, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026. Born, September 6, 1929, in Albemarle, NC, she was a daughter of the late Johnie Adam and Martha Viola Mauldin Bowers.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC, Mondell actively participated in the church choir, was a member of the Senior Adult VIP Group, chaperoned the youth mission trip to Jamaica, and volunteered for various church activities. Additionally, she was a founding member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Cheraw Chapter. Following her children's education, Mondell made significant contributions to her community by working in the library at Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw and later co-owning The Women’s Shop in Cheraw with her sister-in-law. She cherished her experiences traveling the United States on group bus trips.
Along with her parents, listed above, Mondell was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Henry Williamson Brasington, Sr.; her son, Henry “Hank” Williamson Brasington, Jr.; and her brothers, Edward Bowers and Lamar Bowers.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Anne Brasington Adams of Cheraw, SC; a sister, Ruby Bowers Forrest of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Henry “Trey” Brasington, III, Dustin Adam Brasington (Lauryn), John Erwin Adams (Rachel), and Laura Anne Adams McGriff (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Tysen Brasington, Mason Brasington, Ethan Brasington, Braxton Adams, Paisley Adams, Evelyn McGriff, Levi McGriff, and Rollins McGriff.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC with burial following in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. just prior to the service Monday in the Foyer of the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC.

The family extends its gratitude to Agape Hospice, particularly April Rayfield, and caregivers Nancy Workman and Betty Roberts for their exceptional care of Mrs. Brasington.
