Monica Blue Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 12, 2025.
On Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 9:25 pm, we said goodbye to Monica Lynn (Kopnski) Blue, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Monica's warmth, kindness, and compassion touched everyone she met. Her love for family was boundless, and she devoted her life to bringing joy to those she cherished most. Monica's radiant smile and generous heart welcomed all-she made everyone feel like family and welcomed them into her circle.

Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Thomas Lee (deceased) and Mary Louise (Tait) Kopnski, Monica grew up alongside her sister, Marisa M. Kopnski of Morgantown. She attended Westover Elementary, Westover Jr. High, Morgantown High School, and completed coursework in business and economics at West Virginia University.

At just 15 years of age, Monica met John Blue, who would become her lifelong partner. They would go on to spend just 10 days shy of 42 years together. Married in 1983, Monica and John built a loving family, welcoming daughter Brooke Nell in 1984 and son James Jerad (JJ) in 1988. Monica was a devoted mother, always encouraging her children's dreams and ensuring they had every opportunity to grow. She made sure they attended the Church of Christ throughout their entire life to instill into them the knowledge of Jesus Christ and his good works.

Monica had a zest for life-she loved fashion, crafts, holiday baking, frogs, and especially treasured family gatherings. Her creativity and warmth made celebrations magical and everyday moments memorable. John and Monica lived in West Virginia, Maryland, Utah, Pennsylvania, and Georgia throughout their 42 years together. In 2023, Monica and John settled back in Utah to be closer to their children and four adored grandchildren: Ada James (4), Walker John (7), Asher Dee (16), and Kenleigh Brooke (19). Monica's love for her grandchildren was unmatched; they were her pride and joy and she loved them more than anything in the world.

Despite facing a recent diagnosis of triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer, Monica met every challenge with courage and grace. Her strength through 13 chemotherapy treatments was a testament to her resilient spirit and deep love for her family.

Monica's generous heart extended to her friends and neighbors, especially those she met after moving to Starhaven Villas. The Starhaven Villas community has shown tremendous kindness and support, assisting the family with funeral arrangements and surrounding them with love and compassion in this difficult time. Monica was especially grateful for her cherished friend, Teresa Gilvear, whose daily gifts, cards, and words of encouragement during chemotherapy brought Monica strength and comfort.

A funeral service and meal will be held at the Harvest Hills 10th Ward, 368 W Aspen Hills Blvd, Saratoga Springs on Saturday, November 22nd, from 12 to 2 pm. A second celebration of Monica's life will be held for family and friends in Morgantown, West Virginia in December. Her loving husband, John, will return Monica's ashes with him to their Utah home, so her loving and happy spirit will remain close to those she held dear.

As a close friend kindly said, "If the game of life is about loving others and building a beautiful family, Monica won!" Monica's life was a shining example of love, generosity, and grace. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness and devotion will live on in all who loved her.
