Monique Dube Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holt Memorial Chapel - Harrison on Jan. 27, 2026.
French proverb says, "une vie trop tranquille est une mer morte." A life that is too tranquil is a dead sea.

Monique Georgette Dube (née Giroux), 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the Hillcrest Home in Harrison. Born February 25, 1936, in Paris, she survived wartime France and a childhood in the Bon Pasteur Orphanage in Marseille before carving her own path across Europe and, eventually, the United States.

In Metz, while working at a bar, she met the love of her life, American Air Force Airman Ronald Dube. It was, as the family tells it, love at first sight. They married on November 13, 1962, and built a life that carried them through France, Massachusetts, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Texas, and Arkansas. Monique became a U.S. citizen in 1969, learning English through her husband's patient coaching and daytime soap operas - though truth be told, she never quite mastered the language.

Monique lived loudly and joyfully. She loved dancing, the beach, swimming, champagne, pinot grigio, and the occasional secret cigarette. She laughed with her whole being, crocheted beautifully, and called everyone "sweetheart" - whether that was out of genuine endearment or because she didn't remember names easily remains hotly contested. In 89 years, she never met a stranger. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ron, and her brothers, Michel & Paul Giroux.

She is survived by her children, Corine Lord (Guy), Normand Dube (Michelle), and Sam Dube (Lori); her adored grandchildren, Neil Lord (Brennan), Rob Lord, Ashley Kesselman, Lynessa Muse, Cole Dube, and Alex Dube; and five great grandchildren.

The family is especially grateful for the Staff at Hillcrest Home. The care & love they bestowed upon her the last two years of her life were a gift that can never be repaid.

Her life was never tranquil, and that was the greatest lesson she taught those lucky enough to know her. She leaves behind a world that feels quieter now; a dead sea.

A private family memorial will be held on a beach in the near future.

Memorials in her honor may be made to Ozark Share & Care, 105 Hwy 62, Harrison, Arkansas 72601.
