So long, Monte. I was in the orchestra pit for all those crazy Gilbert & Sullivans, and as everybody knows, a G&S is more fun to DO than to SEE. Monte could sing over the noise of my French horn without effort, even though my horn was almost as big as he was. He was always an inspiration in that small town, and he made me know I wasn't alone in the world. Also, he was fun at parties. People with that much energy--it looks like immortality. Which is why it's a sorrowful thing to hear that that light has gone out. So long, Monte.

I was so happy to call Monte Long my friend. He taught two of my boys and coached them. He encouraged them to sing their best, always. I got to know him and he introduced me to The Jackson Chorale. I sing there still, even though I was a violin player. Anyone can sing and he encouraged that. So lucky to know him in my life time.

Monte was an unforgettable guy. We roomed together on a Norman Luboff Choir tour in 1979. Gorgeous voice, great personality and good friend.

Wen I purchased Hoover Music in Jackson MI in 1983 Monte came with the package. He was with me there at Johnston Music until I sold the store in 1990. We had a great relationship. He was the best.

Monte was one of my best friends. We had lost touch after he moved to Delaware but we had spoken a few times since he came home to Dixon. I had so many good times with Monte. Lots of trips to Sanibel and a couple of times I was able to spend time with his family. I feel so fortunate to have been so close to Monte for so many years. I am heartbroken. My condolences to his family. I will treasure my many memories of Monte. May he rest in peace.

There are many, many, wonderful things that can be said of Monte. All that I can really say to give him the tribute he deserves is that he will be missed tremendously in many a persons lives. Those who knew him loved him for whom he was. May you rest in peace my Teacher, Director, and fellow actor

Monte Long was a good, kind and creative force of nature. He was such a talent. I enjoyed being his friend and hanging out with him and John back in the eighties at their home. So many wonderful memories. He was Frederick in Pirates of Penzance and I was the Pirate King. But really he was king. If there was musical royalty in my town of Jackson, Michigan, it was Monte. A great actor, director, teacher and a really great human being. A beautiful soul. I will miss him.

Monte was a creative force who helped me discover love and life during high school, sharing his magical humor and energy in theater, dance practice, singing and acting. He helped my family in many ways with his friendship. He will be missed greatly.
