Montine Howell passed peacefully into Heaven on Sunday morning October 26, 2025 at 97 years of age. She was born on Nov 18,1927 in Alpharetta, Ga to parents, Thomas Jefferson and Lee Onnie Tatum. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Dr. Avery, Y Howell, her parents, a sister, Vera Webb, and brother-in-law, Howard Webb.
She is survived by her four children; Patricia Wester(Charles), Keith Howell (Linda), Baxter Howell(Cynthia) and Avery T Howell(Sharon) all of Cumming, Ga. Eight grandchildren survive her; Justin Howell(Shelby), Jeremy Howell(Jennifer), Joda
Foster(Todd), April Jacobs(Jason), Stephanie Freund(Nick), Anna Norton(Shawn), Carey Baker(Andrew) and Avery C. (Ace) Howell(Erika). Thirteen Great-grandsons and eight Great-granddaughters also loved her as MeMa.
Montine graduated from Milton High School and moved to Atlanta to work for Sears Roebuck company during World War II where she met A.Y. at a clinic of Emory University Dental School where he was a student and she was a patient. They were married in November of 1945 moving to Cumming in 1946 to set up the first full-time dental practice in Forsyth County at the invitation of Mr. Roy Otwell. Montine was a member of first Baptist Church of Cumming for 52 years and a charter member of Cumming Baptist Church for 27 years. She sang in the adult choir until her mid-eighties, taught Sunday school, and faithfully served on many church committees. She was an avid gardener and a charter member of the Cumming Garden Club serving for 75 years on various committees, a life member of the Garden Club of Georgia, the Deep South Region Garden Club and a winner of blue ribbons in 30+ flower shows over the years. She served the community on the Forsyth County Board of the Department of Family and Children’s Services and on the Georgia State Board of DFACS.
Montine resided at The Oaks at Post Road for the past seven years. The family would like to thank Dexter Gravitt, Larry Grant, caregivers at The Oaks and Grace And Hectar Osses for their loving care and compassion over these last several years.
A Celebration of Life service for Montine Howell will be held on Saturday November 1 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Cumming Baptist Church with visitation at Ingram Funeral Home on Friday evening, Oct 31, from 3 to 7 PM and Saturday morning 9 AM until time of service.
Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Cumming Baptist Church, 115 Church Street, Cumming, GA 30040
