Moo Ja Rhew, age 79, a resident of Naperville, IL, formerly of West Orange, NJ, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at her home. She was born September 30, 1942 in Pusan, Korea.
Beloved wife of Ji Jin Rhew, whom she married November 10, 1968, loving mother of Edward (Yoon Jung) Rhew of West Orange, NJ and Elisa (Stephen Chang) Rhew of Naperville, adored grandmother of Samantha and Sawyer Rhew; Mina and Oliver Chang, devoted daughter of the late Bok Keun Park and Mal Soon Kim, dear sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and friend of many.
Although she was a child of war, born during the 2nd World War and the Japanese occupation of Korea, and lived her early childhood during the Korean War, she embraced the importance of a good education and was able to graduate from Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea. She immigrated to the US in 1973 with her husband and 2 children and started a new life away from family and friends. She supported her husband's career, who was a psychiatrist for many years as a homemaker, while running her own business in midtown Manhattan for several of those years. She was a loving mother, who always put her children's needs before her own, and a devoted daughter, who kept her mother close throughout her life despite the many miles between them, seeking her mother even during her last living days. She had a witty sense of humor and found great pleasure in good food, particularly Asian food. She was the most unpretentious and generous person, and would literally give her coat off her back to those in need. She was loved by all whose lives she touched during her lifetime.
Services will be private. Future inurnment: Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
