Morris fought the good fight, lived a rich and righteous life, but lost a 5 year long war against cancer. Cancer destroyed his body but could not destroy his soul.
Mo was born and raised in Lake Orion, Michigan. He was a man with passion for life and amazing skill with all he touched. He learned carpentry and general building skills with good friend and mentor Jim Eischeid. In 1980, Mo enlisted in the United States Air Force working 10 years as a radar (blip blip) technician and developed NATO's first large scale air combat wargame simulation. It was through this work that he met his wife, Kimberly. He worked hard to earn his Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees in Aeronautical Science. While working and pursuing his degrees, he also earned his private pilot's wings soloing over the Alps and served as the vice president of the Ramstein Air Base Aero Club. He and Kimberly married in 1991 and welcomed their two children shortly after.
Mo gained varied career experience as a part-time Adjunct Professor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Troy State University, International Language Lab Professor at the Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base, Contractor for the Department of Defense, and Corrections Officer for Tom Green County, Texas. He was well traveled, visiting dozens of countries on four continents. Mo was a skilled athlete and was adept at many sports – golf being his favorite, and even had the pleasure of playing a round at the St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland. He finally fulfilled his dream of rebuilding and revitalizing distressed properties, incorporating his and Kimberly's passion into KJ&M Designs. Together, they worked to provide affordable and dignified homes for families in San Angelo, Texas. After diagnosis, Morris and Kimberly moved to Selah, Washington to be near family.
Morris is preceded in passing by his parents, Morris and Yvonne Decker, brother, Daniel Decker, brother, Steve Decker, sister-in-law, Kathy Decker, and two nephews, Phillip Decker and Patrick Shaffer. He is survived by brother, Tom (Wendy) Decker, sisters, Nancy Decker (Burch) Burchard, Sheila Decker (Daniel) Stirsman, youngest brother, Robert (Patty) Decker, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 34 years, Kimberly Jo Decker, children, Samantha Jo Decker (Isaí Sanchez) and Sydney Kay Decker (Trevin Cherry), and two darling grandsons, Jesse and Sol, who will miss his never-ending supply of cheesy dad jokes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a cause close to Mo's heart such as the American Cancer Society, the Wounded Warrior Project, the ASPCA, or the fundraising efforts for Kash Nelson of San Angelo.
