Morris Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri - Prairie Village on Mar. 2, 2026.
Morris DeWayne Evans, 82 of Independence, Missouri, passed away after a short illness on February 25, 2026.

Morris was born October 23, 1943 in Lamar, Missouri, to the late James Willy and Fay Carmen (Harley) Evans. Morris graduated from Golden City High School in 1961. After school, he relocated to Independence, Missouri, and worked several years for Allis Chalmers as a sheet metal worker. Later, he became a supervisor for Schorer Manufacturing. In 1962, Morris married Bettijeane (Bass) Evans.

He loved family gatherings and playing games. He always had a joke for every occasion and was only too ready to pull a joke on anyone. Morris belonged to the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willy and Fay Evans, brother Larry Evans and a sister Darlene White.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettijeane; children, Dennis and wife Phyllis Evans of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Shannan and husband Joe Hale of Blue Springs, Missouri and Michale and wife Connie Evans of Lansing, Kansas; sisters Marlene Martin and Charlene Olson; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. The visitation will begin at 12:00 pm followed by the service at 1:00 pm.

Final resting place will be in Greenfield Cemetery south of Jerico Springs, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Shriners Children's Hospital.
