Morris Herring

John Morris Herring age 86, of Burgaw passed peacefully to his eternal rest on the morning of September 19, 2025 at The Laurels of Burgaw. Morris was born November 16, 1938 in Pender County the son of the late Robert Herring and Virginia Cowan Herring. He was predeceased by his loving wife Sheila Lanier Herring, his brother Robert Everette Herring, Sr., sister in law Carroll Herring, brother in law Larry Henderson, and twin granddaughters Kirsten and Amber Herring.

Morris is survived by his loving family, three sons: John Morris Herring, Jr. (Lisa) of Watha, Aaron Decatur Herring (Cathy) of Rincon, GA, and Norwood Dean Herring (Susan) of Burgaw, five grandchildren: Kristian Herring Watts (Anthony) of Watha, Brittany Herring and Brandon Herring of Springfield, GA, Cory Elijah Herring (Chelley) of Rocky Pt., Sydney Herring Holland (Jeff) of Hyden, KY, eleven great grandchildren, Kace and Harper Watts; Osheron Garvin and Zyria Orr; Cataleya Herring; Lily, Levi, and Leo Herring, Stratton, Kenny, and Reagan Holland, two sisters: Kay Herring Henderson of Burgaw, and Janice Herring Eyerman (Jim) of Lakeland, FL, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his very special companion, comfort, and "service" dog Stone "Mac" Herring.

Morris worked with Sheila to upholstery and refinish furniture at their business, Sheila's Upholstery, for over 49 years. He was in construction for 10 years before they opened their business. Morris loved hunting and especially enjoyed running deer dogs. He also loved fishing and boating. Morris treasured and enjoyed carrying his grandchildren hunting and teaching them everything he knew. Morris gave his grandchildren his love of running dogs and hunting deer that carries on today. Morris was an inventor of things to make his life easier. Everyone will always remember & enjoy his ingenious inventions he leaves behind.

A gathering of family and friends followed by a celebration of life ceremony will be held at Harrell's Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
