Morris Rubin Obituary

Morris/Moishe Rubin passed away early morning Sunday, June 11th. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 magical years, Beverly.  He is also survived by his daughter Ilene (Jeffrey), and grandchildren Brandon and Brooke. He is predeceased by his brother Charlie Rubin and sister Kay Mimnaugh, as well as mother Jennie & father Samuel Rubin.

As a younger man he proudly served in the army as a regimented bugler.

He was a hairdresser/salon owner for more than 66 years. He loved his career and truly was passionate about his work. But his true passion and joy in life was his wife and his family! They were his pride and joy more than anything else! He will be deeply missed by not only his family, but by anyone who had the privilege of knowing him! He was a kind, gentle and special man. Truly one in a million!

Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Tuesday, June 13, 11:30 AM precisely, GOLDSTEINS’ ROSENBERG’S RAPHAEL SACKS SUBURBAN NORTH, 310 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. Shiva will be observed at the Seidel residence Tuesday through Thursday. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org

My earliest memory of Morris was likely about age 2-
like my Father, his brother, it was obvious even to a child how happy and engaged in the world he was. At family get togethers (a chore to us kids) there was something different about him in that crowd of strangers. It was that he was never one. Relatives who abstract love of children as an obligation at best and a cheek pinching smothering of kids like we were life preservers (to them we were!) who didn't or couldn't see us as individuals threatened what little refuge kids get at this stage of life. Too young to really show much individuality but too old to not know that life is something to be shared, explored and enjoyed, adults could be a threat. Not Morris. In any crowd, in even casual encounters he remained the open one who you could share what was on your mind, the perpetual buddy who reached out to you even when your defenses were up. And his joy, like Dads, and Aunt Kate, their sister, all were the stand up comics in the family. Comic in that all life to them was to be enjoyed, taken lightly and with much humor reveled in.
Of that gang of relative stability Morris was the ringmaster whose presence was always given with open arms and knowing his smile was an open invitation to an inner strength and purpose that was rooted in a need to extrovertedly include any within reach.
As I was unable to attend his funeral I offer to his friends and family this homage, which I will add to at other times. Like Groucho says, "I must be going" as its 5:45 AM and I have to get back to work. Unlike Morris mine is done often apart from the crowd. Just another reason why I know Morris could not have had a career behind the scenes. More on that next time.
