Mose McKee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by B.E. Brown & Co Mortuary on Mar. 16, 2026.
Mose McKee, Jr, was born in Mobile, AL, to the late Olivia and Mose McKee, Sr., on September 8, 1941. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a proud 1960 graduate of Central High School. After graduation, Mose joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. His military awards include the Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the premier Purple Heart, which is only awarded to service members wounded or killed in combat. He later married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Deloris Joiner McKee. Mose was a loving provider for his family and worked for Kimberly-Clark, formerly known as Scott Paper Company, for thirty-four years until his retirement on July 1, 2001. He was always a man of God and later joined and faithfully served at Fellowship Christian Church.

To know Mose is to love him. He was a man of quick wit and loved laughter. He always wore a smile and spread laughter around him with his many jokes. Anyone who knew him could not have thin skin because at any time, you may be 'properly dismissed'. However, upon departing Mose's presence, he would always tell you to 'hold it in the road' and 'stay in your lane.'

He transitioned from his earthly home on March 9, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olivia and Mose McKee, Sr; loving wife of thirty-five years, Gwendolyn Joiner McKee; two brothers, Earl David Thompson and Climmie Leon Motley; and sister, Carrie Lucille Starks.

He leaves to cherish his memories two children, Lorenzo Joseph (Felicia) McKee and Suzette Olivia McKee; godson, Renard Knight; five grandchildren, Lorenzo Sanders McKee, Lauren 'Baby Doc' McKee, Michaele Douglas, Mikaili Douglas, and Simone Douglas; three great-grandchildren, Kai Jones, Logan Khalesi and Lorenzo Joseph Lee McKee; two devoted nephews, Michael Starks and Marty Starks; all of Mobile, AL; a sister-in-law, Charlene Watson of Orlando, FL., two devoted friends, Dewitt Dowell and Labaron Grove; a special and devoted friend, Earlean Douglas of Mobile, AL., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
