Moses David Holmes, Jr.

Moses David Holmes Jr. was born January 28, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois. On March 20, 2026, Moses received his Heavenly call to be with the Lord and Savior. At an early age Moses accepted the Lord, prayed daily, and was an astute Bible reader.

Paulette, his wife, friend, and confidant shared a life of devoted love, admiration, and numerous hilarious moments with Moses. They made uncountable precious moments and memories. Their unconditional love for each other permeated to all around them.

Moses’s presence was never without a warm smile and laughter that elevated the moment in a positive and refreshing manner. Moses loved being around people and had a passionate heart with a longing to serve youth. Moses was instrumental in developing Boys and Girls Clubs in numerous locations. While establishing a local Boys and Girls Youth Club, he assisted numerous young men and women who later in life expressed their gratitude for his leadership and mentoring, which contributed to their success. Moses had a God-given talent and athletic ability which was dominant in sports. Along with his upbringing, these traits were foundational in building his character and leadership qualities which carried over into his adulthood.

On one occasion, a coworker was facing eviction, and Moses without hesitation, gave his paycheck to help. There were numerous times Moses reached out to family members, friends, and even acquaintances to provide counsel and assistance.

Moses was highly intelligent and harmoniously quick witted. He was a loving, caring, and supportive husband. He was a devoted father to his sons and extended that same love and care to his nieces, nephews, and family members. Moses lived a very productive and meaningful life, touching all within his presence.

His customary comical signature response, “You ain’t never lied,” is legendary and will be missed along with his presence and many attributes.

Moses is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paulette Owens Holmes; son Vashaun Holmes; brother Daryl Holmes (Angela); sister Jacquelyn Slaughter (David); eight nieces and four nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Moses and Jacquelyn Holmes Sr.; grandmother Lillian Henderson; sister Cheryl Johnson; and son Martin Holmes.

There will be an Evening of Remembrance to celebrate Moses life from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Allen Family Funeral Options.
