Moses James Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Apr. 17, 2024.
Moses Hall James passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2024. He was the leader of a big, blended family, and an excellent example of a funny, loving community member. He is deeply missed already.
Born on Galveston Island on July 14, 1948, he is the son of Shufford "Shep" Day Parr, Sr., and Leola Kemp. Both of his parents preceded him in death.
Moses graduated from Central High School in 1966 and attended Galveston College to earn his LVN. He spent 30 years working as a psychiatric nurse for UTMB, caring for the mentally ill in the area and constantly continuing his education. After retirement, he stayed busy by working in various transitional housing programs to help those who struggle with addiction get on their feet. He also spent almost 40 years with a certain 12-step recovery program. He spent his entire professional and personal life caring for those who needed it.
Those mourning his death and celebrating his life include his wife of 25 years, Anne Byer
ames, his 8 children (Gerald E. Sanders, Harriette James-Phillips, Anthony "Tony" James, Angela D. James, RaAnne Gaines, Erik Broussard, Loralea Clay, and Michal C. Farmer), his 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and his siblings (Bishop Shufford Day Parr, Jr., and his wife, Pastor Lenora Parr, Carl Hall, and Stephen Hall). Included with family are his faithful friends, Bill, Robert, and Thomas. Beyond family, there are countless people who are touched by Moses' 75 years on the island.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Carnes Funeral Home (3100 Gulf Fwy, Texas City, TX 77591). Visitation is at 10 am. The service is at 11 am. Memorial Officiants will be Bishop Shufford Day Parr, Jr. and Apostle Lenora Parr, Pastors of GoWon Christian Center Ministry, Killeen, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his favorite 12-step recovery program on the island through this link: https://gofund.me/663cf8fa
