Mr. Martin Thurman "Marty" Grizzard, Jr., aged 66, passed away at his home in Pensacola, Florida, on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
Born on September 7, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia, Marty was a beloved member of his family, well known for his kindness and unwavering support for those around him. Marty's career began as he worked alongside his father at Northside Drugs, where he served as a delivery driver. His skills extended into the trades as well, working as an electrician for J.M. Clayton, where he contributed his expertise and strong work ethic. A graduate of Upson County High School, class of 1977, Marty carried a passion for life that encompassed various interests and hobbies. He was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed the sounds of rock and roll music. He also found joy in exploring new restaurants, spending leisurely days at the beach, and most importantly, being with his family. Marty was always present for them during times of need, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
Marty is survived by his life partner, Carole Fielden of Pensacola, Florida; two daughters, Julie (Brian) Travis of Thomaston and Carly (Travis) Korink of Columbus. He is also survived by his mother, Gail Moore of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his sister, Pam (Jeff) Ansel of Sharpsburg; and his brothers, Stacy Grizzard of Woodland, Dr. Stewart (Teesa) Grizzard of Cochran, and Jody (Dana) Clift of Signal Mountain, Tennessee. Marty was a proud grandfather to Gage Hill, Kyndall Travis, and Charlie Korink, and he cherished his relationships with several nieces and nephews. He received dedicated support from special caregiver Kevin Gilbert during his final days.
Marty was preceded in death by his father, Martin Thurman Grizzard, Sr., his mother, Betty Grizzard, his uncle Charlie Gooden, and his stepfather, Blake Moore.
A funeral service to honor Marty's life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Wednesday. Following the service, Marty will be laid to rest at Upson Memorial Gardens.
Marty will be remembered not only for his professional contributions, but also for his loving spirit and the joy he brought to the lives of those around him. His legacy of compassion and devotion will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
