Mr. Michael Edwards, Sr.

Minister of Music Michael Edwards, affectionately known as “Mr. Maestro,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina, at the age of 68. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Michael’s life was a symphony of faith, family, and music.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Lottie Ann Edwards; his children, Kanada Cymone Edwards and Michael Jason Edwards, Jr.; and his cherished granddaughter, Omani’ Antionette Edwards. He also leaves behind his siblings: Herbert Edwards Sr. (Claudia Edwards), Virginia Edwards-Smith (Julius Smith), and Randolph Edwards (Eldree Edwards). He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Geneva Edwards.

He is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him unconditionally.

Michael’s life was enriched by deep friendships and spiritual bonds. He shared a lifelong connection with his brother-in-law John W. Robinson of Philadelphia, PA, his longtime friend Pervin Cutchin of Brooklyn, NY, and his church family; Brother Kyle Ramsey-- the church drummer (copartners in the music ministry), Deacon Curtis Brigman, Deacon Conrad, and Sister Ann Foxx.

Educated in the Brooklyn’s public-school system, Michael later worked as a mail courier for Xerox at Prisma Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC. But his true calling was music. Known throughout his community as “Mr. Maestro” Michael’s mastery of the keyboard brought joy and inspiration to all who heard him play. Michael has written many songs throughout his life time and maybe one day the church world will be able to know how gifted and talented he was. His passion for gospel music and his role as Minister of Music were central to his identity and ministry.

A loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the NY Nicks, Michael found joy in sports, laughter, and family. He would call his niece, Iesha, every week just to check in and they would laugh and laugh some more about everything. His infectious smile, laugh, and warm spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Michael Edwards will be remembered not only for his musical gifts but for the love, laughter, and legacy he leaves behind. His melody lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him best.
