A loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Barbara Marie Land McClenton, 68, of Albany, Georgia, passed away on October 31, 2024. Born on July 4, 1956, in Leary, Georgia, Barbara was a dedicated member of her community and a beacon of love and support to many. Affectionately known as "Bobbi Land" and "GiGi".
Barbara was deeply involved in her church community as she served on the usherboard at Eureka Missionary Baptist Church, faithfully until her passing. Her commitment to her faith and community was evident through her lifelong service and the love she shared with those around her.
She also had a passion for playing softball, which led her to move with her family to Steubenville, Ohio, in 1975 to pursue opportunities in the sport. However, her devotion to family called her back to Georgia in 1977 to care for her grandfather, marking the beginning of her influential career in education. Barbara's professional life was equally impactful, having dedicated 30 years to the Dougherty County School System. Throughout her career, she held various positions, including custodial supervisor, where she was known for her straightforwardness and high standards.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Barbara enjoyed fishing, playing spades and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Atlanta Braves.
Barbara was extremely involved in her daughter's life and was a proud band parent, for the Marching Trojans of Dougherty Comprehensive High School.
Barbara's legacy of love and leadership survives through her daughter, Tiffany McClenton(Jonesboro, GA); son, Horace (Wanda) Demps(Albany,GA); siblings, Vearlie Annette Wade(Bluffton, GA), Ilene Jones(Leary,GA) Alison Robinson (Greenville, S.C), Priscilla Bigby(Henderson, S.C), Cynthia(Raymond)Banks (Charlotte, NC), Harriet (Scotty) Cade (Anderson,S.C) Bridget Austin-Calhoun(Greenville, S.C), Carl Harris(Orlando, F.L), and Harrison Land Jr.(Taylors,S.C). Her grandchildren, Jordan and Sanaya Demps. Nieces; Tanika Ward, Lacey Favors,Tamesha Wade, and Porcha Jones, nephews; Santorear Wakefield, LaWarren Wakefield, Carlton Richards along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues, and other relatives, will forever treasure their memories of her. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Smith, her parents, Blanche Teel and Harrison Land, and her sister, Christian Teel Wakefield.
Barbara McClenton's life was a testament to her strong will, loving nature, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
