Evelyn R. Hudson Memorial Fund:

Evelyn Sylinda Robertson Hudson was an unwavering and steadfast supporter and advocate of her community and family. She therefore was active in a number of civic, community, and educational organizations; served as a leader in many of those organizations; and even during her later years, advocated for those in need.

Born October 14, 1929, in Walton County, Georgia, she was the eldest child born to Rhuvaster and Katie Martin Robertson. She committed her life to Christ at 13 and was baptized at Good Hope Baptist Church. After moving to Albany she joined and attended Friendship Baptist Church until 1990. At the time of her death she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Albany, faithfully serving until her homecoming.

Without question, she lived a full life, as demonstrated by her love for and commitment to herfamily, her profession, and her faith and church. She also enjoyed the love from her many friends and colleagues; took care of neighbors and her community; inspired and was loved by thousands of children whom she taught during more than three decades as a classroom teacher in public schools in Walton, Wilkinson, and Dougherty counties.Throughout her life she demonstrated a thirst for learning. After graduating from Carver High School in Monroe, Georgia, she continued her education at Albany State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1953. Albany State was more than her undergraduate college. She truly loved the school because it honed her skills and talents as a teacher and gave her and thousands of others the power to change lives and to improve communities. In 1985 she retired from the job that she loved after 35 years as a classroom teacher.

Her colleagues recognized her exemplary work as exemplified through the number of awards and leadership positions that they extended to her. Those included, but were not limited to, the following: Teacher of the Year, Lincoln Heights Elementary School; Club Woman of the Year, Georgia Federation of Colored Women Clubs; Citizen of the Year, City of Albany; President, Albany Chapter of Albany State University Alumni Association; President, Albany State National Alumni Association; and Member, The Albany State University National Alumni Association Hall of Fame.

She was preceded to the end of life’s journey by her parents; her husband, Robert Hudson; her sister, Bettye Baker; her brother, William Herman Robertson, and a God daughter, Wanda Cheeks.

She leaves two children, Victor Herman Hudson and Kaye Hudson McKendrick (Paul); a daughter-in-love, Beverly Hudson; three grandchildren, Victoria Elaine Hudson, Andrea Monique Douglas (Donte), and Paul Christian McKendrick; three great grandchildren, Princeton Douglas, Dallas Douglas, and Kimora Lynn McKendrick; a loving aunt, Louise M. Robinson; and several God children: Linda and Nathaniel Godwin; Milton Cheeks; Sylinda and Donald Brown; Johnte Perry; Jamaal and Jerod Cheeks; Marion, Alfred, and Aneila Ryant; a devoted and dedicated friend, Betty New; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
