Hello Again Mukul:
Remembering you on this day as I have everyday since 9/11/2001. I remember our last call in that mayhem before you said good-bye on the phone ; it broke my heart. The tree I planted for you shortly thereafter has grown tall. My young children planted a tree for “Uncle” Mukul.
It has been 20 years but I still remember our conversations at TIE and your career and life goals at other times. I felt sadness when you left San Diego to return to New Jersey and remember the farewell breakfast at Pannikins in La Jolla, CA. An electricity was felt by me as we shook hands at that moment to say farewell and wish you a good trip back to New Jersey.
I have lost touch with the friends and family but I am sure they all equally remember you in their special way. Love to all.
Words cannot express my emotions and sadness; then and now
May God always bless you. ✝❤
Om Shanti, Shanti,Shanti

I always think of you. September 12 is the day when I finally came to accept the reality and for some unkwown reason , the light dimmed in my study.;As if you were saying good bye to me. A day after the 9th anniversary of those terrible events, I saw a number of facebook messages remembering people, and one led me to this site. I knew Mukul in high school and I see a number of touching messages over the past years from my classmates. For me, I'll always remember Mukul as a joker, ever the optimist, and as a competitor. I haven't played "Risk" in many years but I don't think I'll ever be able to play it in the future without thinking back to our many games. Those were fun times. I'm sorry we lost touch after school but it sounds like Mukul lived his life well before it was so tragically ended.

Mukul and I went to South Brunswick High School together, Class of 1980. I was shocked when I recently learned that he'd lost his life on 9/11. Mukul was a very gentle, kind, intelligent, and humorous person. He helped me with my AP Chem homework all the time and never made me feel stupid because I was struggling so badly with it. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh at himself. I never heard him say an unkind word to anyone. He was always unfailingly kind and happy. My thoughts and condolences go out to his family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Sweet Mike!
Back in 1984 in Evanston, Mukul was a roommate of my then boyfriend, Eugene, and two other crazy Kellogg MBA students, Dominique & Robert.
If I remember correctly, Mukul was employed at Lucent.
Mukul & I were instantly friends! We were "The East Coast Kids" stuck with the Frenchman, the German & the Texan.
Mukul helped me surprise Eugene with a 26th birthday party!
In November, I volunteered to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Each roomie was allowed to invite 2 guests. Well, Dominique didn't quite understand the concept, and we had 10 extra people to feed! Mukul & I were scrambling in the pantry to put anything out on the table to feed the crowd as all grocery stores were closed for the holiday. Somehow we pulled a miracle out of our pocket, and no one went away hungry!
Mukul was the best! He had his little red Volkswagen (It was a GTI, Golf or Rabbit.), and I had my aqua Karmann Ghia. My car was the only one he would allow in his reserved parking spot when he wasn't using it!
Mukul, you live on in my heart! I will always carry with me your sweet smile and infectious laugh!
With love & affection,
Susan

Mukul,
I will not forget my initial amazement on getting your phone call at 10 PM Friday night, to remind me that the next day was Homecoming in Philadelphia. After a five minute conversation, it was agreed. We would go. So, at midnight we left Chicago in your car and at halftime we arrived in Philly. It was an absolutely great weekend! We saw the second half of the Homecoming football game and spent the rest of the weekend with friends. Of course, we had to face the drive back to Chicago. Happily, we left much too late on Sunday, so we could spend as much time as possible with our friends.
I love telling that story!
Thank you for making it possible.
You are missed.

Mukul,
We did not know each other for very long but we became good friends in the short time that we knew each other in San Diego. We met each other at an Indian event and shared a common heritage and common interests such as the best places to get Indian cuisine.
What happened on that terrible day causes me immense sadness and rarely a day goes by when I do not think of you. Over the intervening years since 9/11/2001,I have gotten to know your family and they are a constant reminder of the wonderful and compassionate person that you were...
The years go on but my family and I will always remember you. I hope to see you again some day in the next stage of life.

Today, a year after the tragic events, our school had a prayer service and handed each student a slip of paper with a name on it. Mine was Mukul's. I prayed for him and have felt connected to him ever since. I just want to let his family know how saddened I am that he was involved in the attacks. I hope they know people everywhere, even out here in the middle of no where are praying for him and you.

Mukul was a good friend of mine from junior high school through high school. I love reading the comments that people are making here because they remind me so much of the person that Mukul was. Mukul was a genuine and gentle soul, and one of the funniest people I've ever known. He was one of those people that everyone wanted to get close to.
This is a day to think about Mukul. I think about those times we played tennis, or when our senior class took its trip to Quebec and the fun we had skiing. Or going to his house and having homemade mango pops that his mother had made. Or chatting in the hallway between classes, laughing at some outrageous comment that he made. But mostly, I think about his wonderful smile and the warmth he exuded.
Mukul and I lost touch over the years. I had tried contacting him via the Internet, but could never seem to find out where he was. The last time I saw him was in 1992. I was going to Japan and in true Mukul fashion, he offered to contact a friend who could put me up in Tokyo. We met for lunch in NYC and he was the same as he always was. In Yiddish, he would be called a mensch, a true human being. That’s how I’ll always think of him.

September 11, 2002
Just days before Mukul moved back East he came by to see me in San Francisco. As I write this, I can see just where he sat and talked about everything that had transpired in our lives over the last 5 years. More importantly to him, he talked at length about his future and the exciting changes at hand. And at the center of this was the opportunity to start a new life with Rhea and the opportunity to be near his family again. Like many, I have a hard time reconciling the way Mike and all the others were taken from us. Mukul was a man of exceptionally strong will and determination. I think if he could counsel us in our moments of grief he would tell us "I am beyond harm now. Remember me but do not let this defeat you..."

My husband Christopher and I met Mukul in Hong Kong in 1993. Our prayers go out to his wife, there are no words that can say the right thing. It is only now, when the former mayor said his name at Ground Zero that we found out he was part of the tragedy. Mukul was a tremendously generous and kind person. And funny. And so smart. He touched so many people. It breaks my heart it was his second day there.

I knew Michael was reported missing but didn't want to admit to it until now. Michael was simply one of the greatest guys I've ever met.
I met Michael through a mutual friend at UBS. He was truly a selfless individual and went far out of his way to personally assist me in my career. Michael provided sound, invaluable advice to help me switch career paths, a decision which has benefitted me greatly. I owe a lot to Michael both as an individual and as an American.
One of my life's "to do's" was always to get ahold of Michael again. I am so dissapointed I didn't get that opportunity; we last spoke over the phone while he was starting up his San Diego venture. Michael, the world misses you. May you rest in peace.

Today is May 30 - the day of the ground zero memorial - and I saw Mukul's face on the CNN site. I am completely shocked to recognize someone.
Five years ago - I had just moved to San Francisco and was temping at UBS Securities, didn't know a soul in the city, and Mukul befriended me, made sure that I knew all of the best spots in the city. He took me to Mt. Tam for a hike because I said I was a little homesick for the mountains. I remember that he had a lovely group of friends - there was a party in his apartment overlooking the Bay. He was obviously well liked.
I do remember him well and fondly, and am so very sorry to hear about his family and wife's loss.
Sincerely, Liz Hopp

Not until May 23, 2002 did I learn about Mukul's passing. I had no idea I knew one of the WTC victims. I met Mukul a year ago in San Diego while he was trying to launch a startup. I didn't know him well, but we exchanged emails about the market's need for more timely stock analyst reports. I was a believer in Mukul's startup idea, and I deeply wish it had been funded, so he could have stayed here in San Diego. Rest in peace, Mukul.
