Murl Troy Looper

Murl Looper, 75, of Red Oak, Oklahoma passed away on January 28, 2026 at the Tidwell Living Center in Wilburton, Oklahoma.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Lutie Cemetery with Mr. Charlie Watkins and Bro. Cole Bryce officiating. The burial will follow under the direction of Jones Harkins Funeral Home.

Murl was born on May 24, 1950 in Monroe, Oklahoma.

Murl worked in the oilfield for most of his life. Though he worked hard, he played even harder. In his early years, he was known as somewhat of a pool shark. His main focus though was hunting and fishing. He was a simple, straight forward man, who didn't trust easily. He always meant what he said, and expected the same from others.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Bertha (Pearson) Phillips; father, Troy Looper; brother, Thomas Looper; and sisters: Autumn Johnson, and Virgina Watkins.

Murl is survived by his brother, Gary L. Looper, Sr. of Red Oak; sisters: Rosie Stafford of Wilburton, Hellen Holloway and husband, David of Wilburton, and Betty Morris and husband, Loyd of Midland, Arkansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
