Trujillo Family Funeral HomeMurray Webster Lewis, age 86, was born on December 8, 1938, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Moses and Ava Lewis. One of eleven children, Murray spent his early years in Mississippi before the family moved to Albuquerque in 1947.
While attending Albuquerque High School, Murray met the love of his life, Karen Lizar, his high school sweetheart. They married in 1960 and shared a beautiful life together.
Murray is preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Ava Lewis; his beloved wife, Karen Lewis; seven brothers, William, Rolf, Ross, Albert, James, Charles, and Huey Lewis; and two sisters, Onealure Carroll and Minnie Anderson.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Bassett of Edgewood; his children, Theran Lewis (Sandra), Aaron Lewis (Charlotte), and Tara Jones and her fiance, Kenneth Gonzales, all of Peña Blanca; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Murray was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his many passions, including fishing, golfing, music, singing, poetry, painting, storytelling, and making people laugh.
A gifted musician and songwriter, Murray was also a talented welder. He worked for Sun Country Industries and Cosmodyne Industries and performed classified welding work for Los Alamos National Labs and Kirtland Air Force Base. In later years, he worked at the Cochiti Golf Course.
In 1971, Murray and Karen moved their family to Peña Blanca, where they enjoyed raising their children and becoming part of the community. In the late 1980s, they opened the Bait Shop, selling fishing bait to those headed to Cochiti Lake and later adding video rentals. They became well known and well-loved in the area.
A memorial service will be held on December 13, 2025, 1 to 4pm. At the community center 778 Street NM 22, Peña Blanca, New Mexico
