Murrell Wayne Flynn of Somerset, Kentucky, was born on September 19, 1947 at Somerset City Hospital to Jesse Murrell Flynn and Audra Mae Flynn Buis. He died peacefully on April 4, 2025 at 77 years of age. He was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, and grandpa. Murrell lived a life filled with family, love and service. He served in the United States Army and spent two years stationed in Germany. Murrell received the National Defense Service Medal and earned "Expert" rating on the M14. He had a successful business career as manager at Winn-Dixie prior to joining the United States Postal Service and served as Postmaster in the Stearns, Ferguson and Dunnville Post Offices, before retiring as the Postmaster of Science Hill, Kentucky.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Flynn and Audra Buis, as well as his brother, Darrell Flynn.
Murrell will be missed dearly by his family including his wife, Linda Snell Flynn, daughter of Jacqueline and the late Clell C. Snell of Goodwater. They were married on July 19, 1969, and shared 55 blessed years together. They have 2 sons, Jason Jerome Flynn and Justin Jared Flynn. Jerome lives in Stanford, Kentucky, with his wife, Joslyn Tye Flynn, and twins, Joshua Jerome Flynn and Rosemund McKenna Flynn. Justin lives with his wife, Melissa Bland Flynn, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Their daughter, Megan Elise Dunn, lives in Louisville, Kentucky, with her husband, Tarrylton Dunn. Their son, Grant Jared Flynn, is at college at Eastern Kentucky University. Murrell has two brothers living in Kentucky: Gary Flynn (with wife Penny) of Somerset and Steve Flynn of Smith's Grove.
Over the years, Murrell enjoyed many activities, but he treasured time with family, especially in supporting his grandchildren in their many various activities. He taught his sons the importance of family, hard work, and self sacrifice. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising cows and tinkering with lawn mowers. For over 25 years, he was recognizably known around town when driving his 1977 green Ford truck, which he drove daily. He particularly delighted in cooking for loved ones, especially pies, holiday cakes, and his famous breakfast smorgasboard.
Murrell was a baptized believer and faithful follower of Jesus Christ. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and we know as fellow believers we will be with him again one day in Heaven. He and Linda worshiped at New Life Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to the Hour of Harvest, which is a Christian broadcast outreach ministry, online at wljc.com. Murrell felt abundantly blessed by their music and worship services.
