Brother Mustapha Muhammad, 67, on November 20, 2023, returned peacefully to Allah from his home in Plainfield, New Jersey.
Mustapha Muhammad was born (Wallace Lane) on February 4, 1956 in Rahway, New Jersey to Wallace and Bertha Lane. At the age of 8, his family moved to Plainfield, New Jersey where he attended the Plainfield Public Schools. He was an excellent student of the martial arts, a fierce defender of his siblings, and a protecting friend to all who knew him. He was a genuine warrior in every sense.
Mustapha married his childhood sweetheart, Jeannetta, and through their union they are blessed with three daughters: Menyan, Rasheedah, and Maryam, and five grandchildren: Jihad, Cheo, Asaiyah, Josef, and Issac, all who love him dearly and admire him – as Dad and Pop Pop – for his unconditional love, insight, wisdom, and courage. He will always be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family.
At the age of 14 he became interested in the Nation of Islam under the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and when he became of age he joined the Nation of Islam.
As he continued his journey, facing many trials and tribulations, his transformation became more apparent. Mustapha became the local Representative (Student Minister) of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam in the city of Plainfield, Mosque No. 80. One of the most significant highlights of his life was during The Friendship Tour of the Honorable Minister Farrakhan. On August 12, 1997 in the City of Plainfield he was blessed with the name Mustapha Muhammad, given to him by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.
Mustapha's ministry work included serving as co-chair for the State of New Jersey Million Family March Committee. He also served as the chair of the Plainfield Local Organizing Committee, and was invited as a guest speaker on multiple platforms throughout the east coast. Mustapha was gifted with the ability to speak, and he spoke spiritual substance as he articulated the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad as delivered by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan which prepared him to effectively dialogue and debate with the intelligentsia of society.
Mustapha ministered unto feeding the homeless and less fortunate, visited the sick and the imprisoned, and defended those who could not defend themselves. He provided support and counsel to troubled youth throughout the judicial system. He worked as a counselor within the prison system. He was a marriage counselor for his faith community and the community at
large. Mustapha is affectionately known to many as "your true servant."
He is preceded in his transition by his father, Wallace Lane, his mother, Bertha Lane and two siblings Gheila and Tracy. He is survived by his wife Jeannetta, daughters Menyan (Josef), Rasheedah, Khadijah, and Maryam, son Wali, and spiritual son, Jalil; his grandchildren Jihaad (his ride or die through this battle), Cheo, Asaiyah, Josef, Zada'Selah, and Issac; sisters Wanda, Eugenia, Tober, Tammy, Desiree (Rahman), brother Antoine and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, and friends.
To our beloved family, may we all find comfort in knowing Mustapha loved us all fiercely and wholly and his spirit lives on through each of us.
