Mykel Todd

Mykel (Michael) Todd (Petschow), age 65, passed away at Meadowbrook Nursing home in Bloomer, WI on Thursday, July 25, 2024. He was born on March 31, 1959 in Racine, WI to Maurietta “Mert” A. Burgess and Verlyn W. Petschow. 

 

Mykel spent his childhood in Racine and then moved to Bloomer with his mother and sister in 1973. After graduating Bloomer High School in 1977, he served in the U.S. Air Force for one year. Tragically, Mykel had a serious motorcycle accident on September 16, 1978, leaving him a C6 quadriplegic where he was transferred to the Courage Center in St. Paul, MN for recovery and rehabilitation. He then began a music career by attending Brown Institute of Broadcasting. Mykel worked in radio for nearly 15 years at KQRS in Minneapolis and KNIX in Phoenix, where he earned numerous awards and accolades including Station of the Year - major market with KNIX. During this time, he took on the professional name of Mykel Todd in memory of his brother Todd, who passed away prior to Mykel’s birth. He attended many concerts over the years as part of his love of music and was grateful for the many friendships he made with members of numerous local and national bands. He understood how fortunate he was to have many life-long friends that he made through his love of music, sports and the hundreds of concerts he attended during his life time. Mykel is survived by his siblings: Kevin Petschow of Pleasant Lake MI, Bryon (Linda) Petschow of Lafayette IN, Valerie (Dennis) Rubenzer of Bloomer; nieces and nephews: Jessica (Cameron) Lee, Teresa (Josh) Jones, Zachary (Samantha) Rubenzer and their child Easton, Trevor (Carly) Rubenzer, Tyler (Nicolette) Rubenzer; and numerous other relatives and friends.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurietta A. “Mert” Burgess and Verlyn W. Petschow; uncle, Delvin “Bud” Petschow, brother, Todd, and very special “second parents”, Carl “Don” Knight and Mary A. Knight.

 

At Mykel’s request a brief funeral service will be held at Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be at the same location starting at 1:00 PM on Thursday. Burial will be the following day, August 2, 2024 at the Bloomer Cemetery.
