Myra Virginia Swope Munday, 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 25, 2025. She was born in Stanford, KY on August 10, 1949 to the late George Alford Swope and Charline Whitaker Swope. Myra was a graduate of Stanford High School. She obtained her bachelors, Masters, and Rank 1 degrees in elementary education with emphasis on reading instruction at Eastern Kentucky University. After college Myra married the love of her life Ted Munday. Mrs. Munday lived and worked in Germany while her husband was there serving in the U.S. Army. She began her teaching career stateside in Ohio for 7 years. Then taught at Junction City, Highland, and Stanford Elementary schools for a total of 35 years. Mrs. Munday loved her students and inspired many to become successful readers. During her tenure as an elementary reading specialist Mrs. Munday was honored by "Who's Who in American Teachers". Myra was a member of the Logan Whitley Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution. She enjoyed antique, raising horses and entertaining in her family's history home Bright's Inn.
Myra's enjoyment in her work and hobbies was far outweighed by her love for her family and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Stanford Baptist Church. She had been a member of this congregation since her childhood. From Stanford Baptist Church she served and worshipped at the Roland Mission. From this mission outreach, she became a charter member of the Calvary Hill Baptist Church. During her lifetime she loved to sing and worship in church choirs.
Myra was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Theodore Louis Munday; parents George Alford Swope and Charline Whitaker Swope; and grandparents Judge Sam Whitaker and Mary Saylor Whitaker. Survivors include her only son Dr. George Swope Munday, his wife Dr. Miranda Munday and two grandsons Elijah Swope Munday and Micah Swope Munday.
Visitation will be at Spurlin Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Dismuke officiating. Graveside service at burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.
Active Pallbearers: Jim Chatman, Stephon Wilkinson, Kenny Stamper, Mark Brown, Tim Atkinson, and Lee Speaks.
Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Timothy Atkinson, Sam Luker, Zachary Wall and Logan Wall.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to either: Stanford Baptist Church, Fort Logan Ministries, The Gideons International, Samaritan's Purse, or The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
