Myra Ann Pitcher was born on April 18, 1956, in
Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ellen (Gaffney) Denoncourt. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1974 and earned her Bachelor's degree in Child and Family Services from Plattsburgh State University in 1978, beginning a dedicated 37-year career in social work. On May 23, 1981, she married Curtis C. Pitcher at St. Mary's Cathedral, where Msgr. John Pendergast celebrated their Nuptial Mass. The couple began their life together in Geneva, NY.
She worked as a Social Worker throughout her entire career, beginning at Geneva General Hospital. During their years in Geneva, the couple welcomed two sets of twins, something she fondly referred to as her "claim to fame." In 1990, the family returned to Ogdensburg. She worked at Cedars Nursing Home for a year before joining Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, where she served for twenty-one years as a Social Worker. In her various roles, she supported and advocated for the unborn, the elderly, new mothers, and residents of the Residential Health Care Facility, ensuring their needs were met. This work was truly her calling. After hospital downsizing in 2013, she completed her career with the Community Health Center of the North Country, continuing to advocate for families until retiring in 2017.
She cherished traveling throughout the North Country to attend her children's and her nieces' and nephews' sporting events. Family vacations to Myrtle Beach, SC, and Hampton Beach, NH, created some of her happiest memories. She also loved traveling with Curt across the country, especially visits to the western states, and treasured the trips to see her daughter and granddaughter each year. In the 1980s, she was a member of the Geneva "Mother of Twins Club."
A devout Catholic, Myra was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg. She volunteered in Sunday School, served as a member of Project Gabriel, sat on the Cathedral's Finance Committee, and was a former Eucharistic Minister. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, faithfully sending cards, and writing letters to her granddaughters. She treasured family dinners with her parents, siblings, and children, and especially loved shopping for her children at Christmastime.
One of the greatest privileges of her retirement was the time she spent daily with her mother and father, helping to care for them in their final years, a gift she held with deep gratitude and without regret.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis Pitcher, her children, Jennifer (Tony) Delozier of Midland, TX, Christopher (Katie) Pitcher of Ogdensburg, Gregory Pitcher and his companion, Jessica Barton of Vestal, and Sara (Justin) Bonno of Lisbon. Her granddaughters, Carly Mae Delozier and Madelyn Grace Delozier, who hold a very special place in her heart, survive her. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory, her siblings, Denise (Frederick) Barse of Morristown and Knoxville, TN, Joseph G. (Jennifer) Denoncourt of Ogdensburg, Michael (Karen) Denoncourt of Ogdensburg, and Danielle Denoncourt of Ogdensburg. She is survived by her Uncle, Roger (Jeannine) Denoncourt of Manchester, NH, Aunt Pauline Denoncourt of Manchester, NH, and Merrill Shipman of Simpsonville, SC. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ed (Shirley) Pitcher of Hermon, sisters-in-law, Kathy (Tom) Bowen, and Nancy (Greg) Mobley of Glens Falls. Her good friends Barb Spadaccini, Aimee Fay and her childhood friend Kathy Batemen O'Neill also survive her along with many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Mary Ellen Denoncourt, her brother Patrick Denoncourt and her niece Monica Barse and her nephew Cory Denoncourt.
