Myrna Louise Johns was born to Harold B. Garmire and Dorothy Garmire (Dolbeer) on February 25, 1937. Her life was marked by beauty, talent, and remarkable accomplishments.
Myrna was blessed as a beautiful child. Lots of dark hair and charm. So much so that as a child a band of vagrants kidnapped her while she was on an outing with her parents. Her mother had to run and get help to get her back from them.
From a young age, Myrna captivated those around her with her charm and a beautiful singing voice, winning numerous radio contests, a feat so impressive that her parents eventually had to limit her participation. She faced a profound loss at the age of 15 when she lost her mother, yet continued to shine brightly in all she did.
Myrna met a handsome man/child named Lynn Johns while in her senior year of high school. They married in November 1954 and enjoyed 68 years of devoted partnership until Lynn's passing in 2022. And they said it wouldn't last
Myrna was always busy. She didn't like watching TV so she filled her time with reading, knitting, gardening, and decorating. Myrna designed their home. A naturally sociable person, she effortlessly made friends and cherished her relationships.
In her professional life, Myrna made history as the first female director of high school athletics in the nation. She made significant contributions to the field, including her induction into the Idaho Coaches of Dance and Cheer Hall of Fame and being the first woman to serve on the National Football Rules-making committee. Guided by a passion for supporting youth, she founded the Youth Endowment of Activities Foundation, directly helping high school students pursue their competitive goals. Her dedication earned her the title of Statesman Distinguished Citizen.
Myrna was a member of a book club in which she forged lasting friendships with all of the members. Even when her hearing failed her, she kept attending just so that she could be around all of them. She was also a church librarian for 20 years! Those librarians are legends; such a fun group, with good friendships.
Myrna was fiercely devoted to her family, celebrating their successes and providing unwavering support. She took great pride in her children Robyn, Brett (Jenn), Lyndon (Heather), Kent, and Warren (Juli).
The same devotion and loyalty extended to her grandchildren: Matt Morgan, Cory Morgan, Shawn Morgan; Cara Reed, Andra Billiard, Whitney Johns, Kirk Johns; Kiley Johns; Kasey Hight, Brock Johns; Lorren Lemmons, Jenna Reintjes, Jace Johns; and great-grandchildren: Juleigh Morgan, Trey Morgan, Ryder Morgan, Vilissa Morgan, Carter & Vianca McCall, and Coralee Silvey; Annabelle, Max, Russell, Ivey and Bo Reed; Emma, Dublin & Crew Roy; Carly Johns, Rylie & Levi Hight; Calvin, Nolan & Millie Lemmons; Charlie & Luci Reintjes
Myrna will be missed by everyone who knew her. Her legacy of friendship, love, and achievement will continue to inspire all who knew her.
