Myron Morgan Yagel, Ph.D., devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully in his sleep, entered the gates of his heavenly home, and reunited with his beloved wife, on Monday morning, December 4th, 2023. At 97 he was preceded in death by his parents, Cameron Galen Yagel and Marjorie Lucille Morgan Yagel, his brother, Gerald Thomas Yagel, and his wife of 63 years, Bobbie Lee Brown Yagel.

Born March 5th,1926 in Charlottesville, Virginia and raised in Richmond, Myron graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, received a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Richmond in 1952, and an M.A. in Speech Pathology. He served as a much-loved principal at Richmond's Park School for many years, dedicated to the education of special needs children, and also in WWII, rising through the ranks to Naval Lieutenant Commander after continuing in the Navy Reserves.

Outside of the classroom, Myron spent several years as both director and coach at Richtop Community Pool; in his early forties, summers were then spent pursuing a Ph.D. in Special Education at UVA. After graduation he accepted a position at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he taught for twenty years. There Myron enjoyed supervising student teachers and advising for Chi-Alpha, a campus Christian fellowship. Encouraging students in their personal and faith lives was, for him, both a talent and a passion. He also served as deacon and elder at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Richmond and at Graystone United Presbyterian Church in Indiana, PA.

Myron's interests included faithful daily devotions, traveling both abroad and across the US, sailing, skiing, photography, gardening, and bee-keeping. He also co-authored a marriage mentoring book with his wife, Bobbie, entitled, "15 Minutes to Build a Better Marriage."

He is survived by his three children, J. Craig Yagel, Ph.D., (Denise), Stephen Thomas Yagel (Elizabeth), Wendy Lee Yagel Watros (Jeffrey), six grandchildren, three great granddaughters, two nephews, and great-nephews and nieces.

A graveside service for family and friends will be conducted by the Rev. William Yagel on Wednesday, December 20th at 12:00 p.m. at Hopewell Methodist Church in Chesterfield, Virginia.
