Jacqueline "Jackie" Dawkins

Jacqueline "Jackie" Williams Dawkins, 87, of Hamlet, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

She was born March 1, 1939, in Ellerbe, daughter of the late James Randolph Williams and Myrtle Shepherd Williams.

Jackie was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hamlet, where she served many years in the choir and as the WMU director. Serving the Lord and being with her church family was of upmost importance in her life.

Having a caregiver's heart, Jackie worked as a registered nurse for more than 45 years, primarily with Hamlet Hospital, then as it transitioned to Sandhills Regional Medical Center.

In her earlier years, Jackie met and married the love of her life, James Dawkins, and in their earlier years, they traveled while he served in the military. And as life progressed, they continued to travel with church trips and mission trips. She enjoyed her flowers, watching birds, and she was an avid Scrabble player, also known as the champion. Of her many loves in life, her family was her greatest joy. Jackie will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Richard Dawkins; brothers, James Preston Williams, Johnny Randolph Williams, and Robert Lee Williams; and sister, Sylvia Louise Williams.

Jackie is survived by her caring and devoted husband of more than 69 years, James Dawkins of the home; daughters, Kay Dixon (Mark) of Hamlet and Dreama Sharpe of High Point, NC; special daughter-in-law, Carol Clover Dawkins of Hamlet; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Alma Jean Blake (Rick) of Norman and Lois Roberta Richardson (Robert) of Ellerbe.

In loving appreciation, the family wishes to thank caregiver Cindy Robinson for the care given to Jackie in the last several months.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 4:00-5:00pm at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.

The Celebration of Life service will begin following visitation, at 5:00pm, in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Frye and Pastor Bill Monroe officiating. Burial will be held private at a later date.
