My Personal Reflections of My Beautiful Life
A baby girl was born to the late Eugene and Anita Bryant Callis in Edna, Texas on September 1, 1922. I was the first born of eight children and they named me Myrtle Lee and my nickname was "Skirt". I went to schools in Edna and later went to Anderson High school in Austin, Texas for 2 years. I later moved and lived in Galveston, Texas for 41 years and was a member of The Smiling Girl Social and Charity Club under the leadership of Fred Sublett. I was the last of The Smiling Girls. I loved praising the Lord, cooking, playing bingo and cards. I also was a proud fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys and was a ride or die fan. I worked for the Alprien Family for 15 years then went to work at UTMB in the Labor and Delivery Department until I retired. After retiring, I married the man of my dreams, the late Mr. Australia Robertson. We lived a happy life together in Houston and Texas City, Texas. After the death of my husband, I spent most of my time at the Nessler Senior Center for 10 years, I loved going and called it "The Old Folks Club."
A special thank you to my grandchildren Bobbie and Charlie Ruben for all the loving and care that was given to me in the final stages of my life. I also want to thank my Pumpkin for taking care of my needs. I want to acknowledge my best friend Daisy Buster and Helen Cardon. Preceding in death my parents, Eugene Sr. and Anita Bryant Callis, my grandparents, husband, Australia Robertson, sister Francis Robinson, sister-n- law Sarah Ann Callis, my four brothers, Clinton Callis, Eugene Callis Jr, Biily Ray Callis Sr. and Donald Callis, daughters, Clarene Brown, Catherine Holland, and granddaughters Dechelle Ray and Denice Robertson, great-granddaughter, Eboni Jones, daughter-n-law Dollie Robertson, sons, Eugene Brooks, Raymond Robertson and Andrew Robertson. Surviving uncle, Marcellas Haynes, brothers, Zack Callis and Johnnie Ray Callis, children Lawrence and Wanda Callis, Leon and Marsha Robertson, and Robert Robertson. I also hold a special place in my heart for my God Children, Anitra Ruben Esther and Damon Esther, Alize Reed and Andrea Robertson. Also, I leave eleven grandchildren and a host of many great, great-great, and great-great-great grandchildren.
I did my best.

Declarations of Love
My Love Letter
Little Mama, God gave me two mamas, mama and you. You cared for me, nurtured me and raised me. You never treated me like I had a handicap. When you whooped my sisters, you got me too. I use to holler, "Lil Mama you are going to hurt my legs!" and you would say, "I ain't hitting your legs, I am hitting your behind." So, I learned to stop hollering so my whoopings would become less. Yeah, you gave me extra food, seconds and thirds because you knew I was greedy. You taught us about love because you knew God and God is love. I love you grandmother from the depths of my heart. You would say I love you more. Rest on Lil Mama until we meet again.
From Granddaughter, Beverly Faye Barnes Henry
Dear Family and Friends,
Diana and I will not be able to attend the services for Aunt Myrtle. We desperately wanted to be there. May God bless my family and send his angels to give them comfort and strength. We will be holding family close in our hearts and prayers. I have so many fond memories of my aunt Myrtle. She would often let me know that she was the person that named me at birth and how she made the trip from Galveston to Edna when my mother went into labor with me. Everyone who met Aunt Myrtle knows what a special person she was. She touched many hearts. Her smile was like sunshine, and she had a heart of gold. I will deeply miss our weekly phone calls. Talking to her was always a treat. God now has her in his arms, and I will always have her in my heart. You will always be remembered no matter what. Your love and kindness will forever be with us, Rest for now until we meet again. REST IN PEACE Aunt Myrtle!
POEM: Those we love, don't go away they walk beside us. everyday unseen, unheard
but always near still loved still missed and very dear.
Sincerely,
Michael & Diana Hines
He Only Takes the Best
God looked around his garden and found an empty space. Then he looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, he only takes the best.
We Love You Lil Mama,
T-Baby and The Babies
Legacy of Love
To our grandmother, Lil Mama, who wore many hats, for different seasons of the year. Winter hats were made of wool to keep her head warm, Spring hats were made from straw to keep her head cool, and baseball caps were worn in the summertime to keep the sun off her head. When Fall came, she would wear her favorite pillbox hat, Lil Mama was a Diva. Every time she bought a new hat, she also needed a new outfit and shoes to match, and all the accessories that went along with it. Lil Mama would say, "Everybody baby can't wear a hat", as she smiled. She was a Virtuous Woman of God (Proverbs 12:4). Lil Mama you taught us love and how to fight, you gave us strength, you gave us might, and in your heart, you were always kind. You fought for us all in one way or another. For all of us you gave your best. And now Lil Mama the time has come for you to rest. So, go in peace, Lil Mama you've earned your sleep, your love in our hearts we will forever keep.
Granddaughter, Cheryl Barnes Mason
Our Lil Mama
Words can not express how much we loved and cherished "our" dear LIL MA. May all friends and family know and take comfort in her memory and that she Is surrounded by all past family members preceded in death like, BIG MA, RED, TONYA, and UNCLE DON in Heaven. May the pain we feel now be nothing compared to the joy found in remembering her name and her 99 years of life. She might be Gone from our sights, but never from our hearts. LIL MA will be missed by all of us. She has definitely earned her eternal peace. May she march on with KING JESUS!
