Nadene Hicks Burton

Nadene Hicks Burton, 77, of Salisbury, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, December 5, 2025. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Nadene brought warmth and kindness into every life she touched.

A devoted wife, mother, and Nana, Nadene had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel like family. She never met a stranger, greeting new faces with a hug and always parting with her signature phrase: “I love you more.” Her boundless love and compassion were a constant, even as Alzheimer's slowly stole her memories-her heart and soul remained as radiant as ever.

Nadene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James C. Burton, in 2020, and her son, James Ernest “Ernie” Burton, in 2018.

She is survived by her son, David R. Burton, and his wife, Nancy; her cherished grandsons, Zander and Drew Burton; and her daughter-in-law, Jeanmarie Burton. She also leaves behind her dear sisters, Andi Johnston (Joe), Rennie Walker (Robert); special cousins, Lola Hodge (Roger) and Nena Martinez (Jose); brother-in-law, Ray Burton and special friends, Tammy Morgan and Judith Riggs, whose enduring support meant the world.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Compass Healthcare and Rehabilitation for their care and kindness.

Nadene's legacy is one of unconditional love, boundless generosity, and a spirit that uplifted everyone she met. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family will receive friends 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Friday (December 12) at Summersett Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1 PM at Rowan Memorial Park with Rev. Mark Loman officiating.
