GREEN, Fred Thomas
Fred Thomas Green Jr. of Mableton, GA, passed away peacefully at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain, at the age of 98, on September 23, 2025. Fred was born at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, GA, on August 26, 1927, to Fred Thomas Green Sr. and Myrtice Ferrell Green. Fred grew up in the Center Hill community of Atlanta, GA, and graduated from West Fulton High School, in 1945. Fred served in the Army Air Forces during WWII and was stationed at Clark Air Base on Luzon Island in the Philippines. After returning from service, Fred married his high school sweetheart, Vivian Juanita Bell, on March 1, 1947. Fred and Vivian were married for 73 years until Vivian passed away in May 2020. Fred worked for Beaudry Ford Motor Company, American Can Company, Wilson Trucking Corporation, and retired from the Georgia Power Company after 37 years of service as a draftsman. Fred joined by faith at Center Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. After moving to the Cascade Heights community of Atlanta, GA in the late 1950s, Fred and Vivian became members of West Manor Baptist Church. After moving to Mableton, GA in the late 1960s, Fred and Vivian became members of First Baptist Church of Powder Springs. While at the Georgia Power Company, Fred was a member of the Engineering Society. Later, Fred and Vivian enjoyed being members of the Georgia Power Ambassadors. Fred was a lifelong Mason, first joining Masonic Lodge No. 83 in the Center Hill community of Atlanta, GA and then Masonic Lodge No. 171 in Mableton, GA. In addition to being a Mason, Fred was a Noble of the Yaarab Shrine Temple. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Juanita Bell Green; parents, Fred Thomas Green Sr. and Myrtice Ferrell Green; and sister, Mildred Harris (Walter). He is survived by his three daughters, Alicia Ellison, Lauren Gombolay (Craig), and Joanee Hunter (Kent); grandchildren, Haley White (Craig), Klint Hunter, Luke Hunter (Laci), Matthew Gombolay (Grace), Alli Gombolay, and Callie Ellison; and great-grandchildren, Jack Tuggle, Colton White, McKenley White, Easton White, Livian Hunter, Liam Hunter, Elijah Gombolay, Elizabeth Gombolay, Evangeline Gombolay, and Ezra Gombolay; and nephew Gene Harris (Cherie). Fred enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, beach vacations, fishing, golfing, picnics, hiking, making homemade peach ice cream, and hosting family reunions with Vivian. Fred always had an innate curiosity to create, build, and repair with his hands, and he enjoyed learning from his father, who was a carpenter. Fred learned how to build houses, repair air conditioners, cars, lawn mowers, and machines of all types. While in the Army Air Forces, Fred and his service buddies built a small plane from discarded airplane parts. They were so excited when they were able to successfully fly the plane around Luzon Island in the Philippines. However, they were disappointed the plane's gas tank was too small to fly the plane back to the U.S. A family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, with Pastor Alan Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Powder Springs, 4330 North Avenue, Powder Springs, GA 30127. The family will receive friends at the visitation on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 PM, at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home - Powder Springs Chapel, 3940 Macland Road,Powder Springs, GA 30127.
