Nan "Sue" W. Jenkins, known affectionately as Sue to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in Lee County, Alabama. Born on June 23, 1934, in Pike County, Alabama, Sue's life was marked by her loving nature, her dedication to her family, and her passion for nurturing both people and plants.
Sue is remembered as a pillar of strength and generosity, always putting others before herself. She is survived by her two devoted children, Greg Jenkins and Angela "Lynne" Jenkins (Stan). Her legacy continues through grandchildren, Charles Brandon Meeks (Kelley), Cherie L. Straker (David), Amanda Holland (T.J.), and James Jenkins (Olivia). Great grandchildren, Stephen Jerome, Tynan Ledbetter, Michael Freese, Jonathan Straker, Mckayla Meeks, and Gabriel Murray, and her great-great-grandchild, Sariya Jennings. Also, many beloved nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Waters and Gladys Armstrong Waters , her beloved spouse, Arthur Lee Jenkins, and her cherished son, Michael Jenkins, stepfather, Paul Cecil Carroll; and brother, Gene Douglas Waters.
An alumnus of Smith Station High School, Sue's pursuit of knowledge led her to graduate from nursing school in 1971. She dedicated many years to Cobb Hospital, where her compassionate care left a lasting impact on countless lives. Even after retiring from nursing, Sue's innate desire to help others drove her to work at Parkwood Nursing Home, continuing her life's mission of caring for those in need.
Throughout her life, Sue was known for her incredible kindness and generosity. Her warmth and love radiated throughout her community, where she was involved with the Stafford Road Church of Christ for many years. Those who knew her will fondly recall her passion for playing tennis with friends at Idle Hour Park during her younger days. Sue also found joy in gardening, creating a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility in her own backyard. Her culinary skills, particularly her delicious Blueberry Cobbler made with berries picked fresh from her garden, were the highlight of many family gatherings.
Sue's love for animals was evident in her affection for her pets and the care she provided to them. Her nurturing spirit extended to all living creatures, and her presence brought comfort and happiness to those around her.

A memorial service to celebrate Sue's life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11 am ET at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in
Phenix City, Alabama. The service will be officiated by her son in law, Charles Stanley Ridley, who will honor the memory of a woman whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and generosity.
Sue's life story is one of profound love and selfless service. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, yet her spirit will continue to inspire us every day. Sue leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and those whose lives she touched.
