Nancy Allen Obituary

Nancy A. Allen

ALLEGANY - Nancy A. Allen, 78, of Buffalo Road, passed away Monday (Nov.10, 2025) at Olean General Hospital.

Born Feb. 15, 1947, in Olean, she was the daughter of Albert and Mary Jane Travers Gates. On April 24, 1965, at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean, she married Edward V. "Bud" Allen Jr., who survives.

Nancy was a 1964 graduate of Archbishop Walsh High School, having been a member of one of the first classes to pass through the school.

She was first employed as a switchboard operator for New York Telephone. She then worked from 1981 to 1987 in the administration office of Allegany High School prior to working as a switchboard operator for the Cattaraugus County Office Building in Olean. She retired in 2003.

She was a longtime member of St. Bonaventure Church where she assisted as a eucharistic minister and sang in the choir. When her children were younger she was a Cub Scout den mother and later was an election poll taker for Cattaraugus County.

She enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society and the Allegany Sixty-Plus and spent time as a volunteer for Olean General Hospital.

She loved to sing and participate in musicals with the Olean Theater Workshop.  Along with her husband Ed, she enjoyed traveling which included Cancun and several countries.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, Ed; three children, Jeffrey Allen of Las Vegas, Nev., Randy (Michelle) Allen of Lancaster and Marcy (John) Zalewski of Olean; five grandchildren, Tyler McHone, Zachary Allen, Katelyn Allen, Sydney Ulasewicz and Kimberley Allen; two brothers, Albert Gates of Marshfield, Mass. and James Gates of Farmville, Va.; Mary Lou Mangini of Weston, Fla. and Ellen Wachowicz of Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 13, 2024) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m.  Friday (Nov. 14, 2025) at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Olean General Hospital Comfort Care, 515 Main St., Olean, NY 14760; or to the Alzheimer's Association of Western New York, 6400 Sheridan Drive, Suite 320, Buffalo, NY 14221.
