Nancy Ball Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crow-Hussell Funeral Home - Point Pleasant on Mar. 9, 2025.
Nancy Elizabeth Ball passed on March 8, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born December 14, 1947, the first child of Nelda Jane and Albert Gilley. She was taken home to live in an upstairs apartment of her grandparents' mom and pop store on First Street. In 1950 a sister joined the little family, and they soon moved to their first home on South Park Drive. In 1953 a brother completed the family, and the family stayed in the little house until the three children were grown and gone, and the parents graduated from this life.
Nancy grew up in the safe community where there were many children near her age, and she made lifelong friends. She often spoke of how much fun she had listening to and dancing to ole time rock and roll of the 1950's and 1960's. Although in her last few years she was not mobile she often spoke of how much she enjoyed dancing in her girlfriend's basement to a real jukebox and in the upstairs of the ole PPHS gym at noon. Living just a short walk from the school, she was able to participate in activities with little trouble. She was a member of the high school band and enjoyed many trips and activities associated with that. She also took piano lessons and was active in Girl Scouts and later a leader of her daughter's Brownie Troop.
Trinity Methodist Church was an important part of her life growing up and she would in 1968 marry her high school sweetheart Philip Ball there. They were active members after they returned from Lockport, NY where Philip was in the service. Nancy would become a long time Sunday School teacher and Philip a long-time usher. Their two children Jodeann and Nathan were baptized and later married there. Nancy and Phillip became Nan and Pop to five grandchildren. They were doting grandparents and very much involved with the lives of Marikate, Ethan, Jacob, Ireland, and Gabe.
Nancy spent much of her adult life involved in the banking industry. She started as a teller at Citizens Bank locally and worked in a Lockport, NY bank while residing there. She finished her banking career at Ohio Valley Bank doing training at their different locations in Ohio and West Virginia. Nancy loved the home she and Philip had built in Poplar Heights near Point Pleasant. She loved to decorate and was quite good at it. She often thought of her home and pool after she moved to assisted living in Barboursville near her children.
Besides her husband and parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her brother Morty and brother-in-law Charlie Powell. She is survived by her children Nathan Ball and Jode and Rob Polcyn; her grandchildren Ethan and Ireland Ball and Marikate (Ryan Olee), Jacob, and Gabe Polcyn. Nancy is also survived by her extended family: sister Marsha Powell and niece April; nephew Kristan Gilley and his wife Sherri; and nephew Jason Gilley and his children.
Nancy's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at The Village at Riverview, Barboursville, WV and her special caregiver, Brittany for the care that they provided to Nancy during her time there.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2025, at Kirkland Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ronnie Tote presiding. There will be no visitation.
