Nancy Carol Behrens (nee Anderson), age 87, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, in
Batavia, Illinois.
Born on December 31, 1938, in
Morris, Illinois. Nancy was the daughter of W. Roy and Hildegarde Anderson. She graduated from Oswego High School.
In her early years, Nancy had a spirited and adventurous nature. She loved riding her palomino horse, Trigger, and took part in barrel racing. Her musical talents included playing both the guitar and saxophone, and she also played on a basketball team in her youth-showcasing her vibrant energy and diverse interests.
Nancy began her professional life working at Old Second Bank then as a bookkeeper for a car dealership. After marrying Herb Behrens Jr., she devoted herself to raising her children. Once the children reached their teens she returned to the workforce as a school bus driver. This allowed her to remain connected to the lives of young people in her community.
She was involved in her children's activities, especially supporting swimming team events. Later in life, Nancy found joy in golfing and hosting gatherings with neighbors, friends and family. Nancy enjoyed cooking and baking, her specialties were homemade ketchup (a favorite of her children) and lefse (a Norwegian delight, uff da). Her home was often filled with laughter and joy.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Herb Behrens Jr., her parents W. Roy and Hildegarde Anderson, her brother Gerald Anderson and her granddaughter Hanna Behrens.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jim (Jodi) Behrens, Patty Behrens (fiancé David Markison) and Herb (Kim)Behrens; grandchildren: Stephanie, Kara, Jamie, Nick, Jake, Ben and great grandchildren: Graham, Phoebe and Henry.
A life well lived leaves behind cherished memories.
The family will be having a private celebration of life for Nancy.
