Nancy Brown

Nancy Brown, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away March 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in San Francisco, California, to Betty and Donald Miller, and was raised in Palo Alto alongside her siblings Sherry, Betty, Donnie, and Dale.

Growing up, Nancy loved being part of the energy and tradition of her community. She and her siblings spent time ice skating together at the Winter Lodge in Palo Alto, a memory that stayed close to her heart. She also enjoyed attending Stanford football games and later cheering on her beloved San Francisco 49ers.

In 1971, Nancy was Miss Oak Knoll in a USO pageant held at the Presidio in San Francisco, California.

She met her husband, Wallace Brown Jr., in Oakland, California while he was serving in the United States Navy. They were married for 54 years and, following his military service, made their home in Missouri, where they raised their three children Dawn, Bryan, and Katie.

Nancy worked for the local school district as a lunch lady, a role that suited her perfectly. Known for her big heart and generous spirit, she touched countless lives, not only through her work, but through the way she showed up for others every day. Her job also allowed her to be present for what mattered most to her, her children and, later, her greatest joy, her grandchildren.

Nancy was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family. Whether it was taking her grandchildren shopping to find the best deals, spoiling them with thoughtful surprises, or making handmade blankets to share with family and those in need, she gave freely and joyfully. Her generosity extended beyond her family into her community, where she was always ready to help someone in need.

Nancy was also an avid reader throughout her life, finding joy and comfort in books from a young age and continuing that love through the years.

After settling in Missouri, Nancy became a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. She rarely missed a game and, if NASCAR was on, you could be sure she was watching, or traveling to tracks across the country to experience the races in person. Throughout her life, she also made many trips back to California, always keeping a connection to the place where her story began.

Nancy has gone to heaven, where she is now one of our angels, reunited with her parents Betty and Donald, her sisters Sherry and Betty, her brother Dale, and her nephew Scott, watching over all of us with the same love she gave so freely here.

Like a butterfly emerging into new life, Nancy has been made whole again in heaven. We will remember her in every butterfly we see, a gentle sign of God's promise that life is renewed, and love never ends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Wallace Brown Jr.; her children Dawn, Bryan, and Katie; her brother Donnie Miller; nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Above all else, Nancy's family was her world. She loved deeply, gave generously, and created a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion that will live on through those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be 2pm, followed by Celebration of Life at 3pm, Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, Missouri 64133.
