Nancy Butler

Nancy Elizabeth Butler, 72, of Centerville, passed away on January 8th, 2026 of natural causes.

Born in Cape Cod Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Robert & Dorothy Nickerson. She was a graduate of Barnstable High School and was the last of several generations of Cotuit Nickerson plumbers.

For over twenty years she worked at Augat in Mashpee, second shift, tending the electronic assembly machines into the late hours of the night. When Augat moved operations to the Carolinas, Nancy took a job as Activities Aid at the Centerville Nursing Home, leading games and exercises for the residents. When the Centerville Nursing Home closed, she did the same work as a volunteer at the Cape Regency Nursing Home.

Nancy had a longstanding interest in early American folk dancing. Nancy and Doug first met at a New England folk dance. Their interest in dance also led them to become long time members of the Yarmouth Minuteman, recreating the life of Cape Codders during the American Revolution. Nancy was particularly known for her skill in baking bread on an open campfire.

Nancy is survived by her husband Douglas M. Butler of Centerville and was predeceased by her brother Robert Nickerson Jr.

Burial will be at a later date.
