Nancy Lee Castle, 79, of
Clear Spring, MD passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 2, 2026.
Born on Monday, May 6, 1946, in
Hagerstown, Maryland, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Alvey Sylvester Baker and Dorothy Julian (Slick) Baker.
Nancy was the 3rd of 13 children and spent her early days helping on the family farm. She graduated from North Hagerstown High School with the Class of 1964. After graduation, Nancy entered the workforce and began raising her family.
Following years of employment in various roles, Nancy pursued her dream of entrepreneurship and founded West End Hair Stylists, where she spent the majority of her career. Surrounded by her coworkers that were more cherished as her best friends, her salon was like many others; a place for patronage, laughs and a little gossip. She had many loyal clients for decades. That same desire to achieve led her to open other businesses throughout the years while never forgetting what really mattered most.
Nancy will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family. Her family was everything she worked for. She was loyal, compassionate, and fierce if she needed to be. Nancy was also known as one of the most selfless and giving of people. She consistently sacrificed her own agenda and wishes so that her children would have the life she always wanted for them. Her generosity was not limited to her immediate family. Countless friends, neighbors and relatives could always count on her for helping hand, a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. Everyone in her orbit could always count on Nancy to be there.
That willingness to give and serve also led Nancy to open her home to dozens of children in foster care who just needed a steady hand, a comfortable bed and a warm embrace. She did this repeatedly for years; once again, putting others' needs first.
Nancy also knew how to enjoy life as hard as she worked. Be it playing cards with family, a night out with friends, family reunions or riding motorcycles with her beloved Johnny, she made it a joy to be with her.
She is survived by her daughter Michelle Frazier, son Matthew (Nichole) Cole, grandchildren Christopher Ambrose, Gregory Cole III, Nicholas (Jessica) Ambrose, Jordan Ambrose, Kaitlyn Cole, Jessica Ambrose, Abigail Cole, Amanda Cole, Tessa Piper, Brianna Cole, Asher Cole and Josie Cole. Great-grandchildren Rylan Mills, Kaelyn Mills, Braelyn Fisher and Skylar Ambrose. Sister LuAnn (Jim) Wells; brothers Dave Baker, Dwight Baker and Steve (Dina) Baker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also, she will be missed dearly by her best friend for decades, Anna Yost.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her loving husband of 34 years, John Glenn Castle, her son Gregory Alan Cole Jr., Brothers Alvey Baker Jr., Charles Baker, Michael Baker, Roger Baker; Sisters Caroll (Baker) Eccard, Gloria Baker, Julian Baker and Angela Baker.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Friday January 16th, 5 P.M. at Keedysville United Christian Fellowship 18823 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville, MD.
