Nancy Crawford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Family Funeral Home - Edinburg on Mar. 26, 2026.
On March 2, 2026, the world became a little less interesting and a lot quieter. Nancy Crawford passed away peacefully at her home in Mission, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of fierce intelligence, unwavering honesty, and a spirit that couldn't be contained by tradition.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, on December 27, 1954, to Gordon and Margaret Crawford, Nancy was the daughter of a military family. That upbringing instilled in her a lifelong love for travel; she crossed borders and time zones, living in various countries and nearly every corner of the U.S. Along the way, she developed a worldview that was as broad as her stamps in her passport.

Nancy wasn't your typical "cookie-cutter" mother. She didn't believe in sugar-coating the world or telling me what I wanted to hear just to make things easier. She believed in the truth, delivered straight. Whether we were locked in a hours-long debate over complex political shifts or the latest scientific discovery, she challenged me to think, to defend my positions, and to see the world with clear eyes. I am the man I am today because she refused to let me settle for easy answers.

While she never went looking for a pedestal, leadership seemed to find her anyway. She had a natural authority that people gravitated toward-a "strong leader" in every sense of the word, even when she didn't ask for the title.

Beyond her intellect, Nancy's heart belonged to a select few: her brothers, Jeff and Greg; her loyal (and likely very spoiled) dog, Louie; and the absolute light of her life, her granddaughter Scottie.

Perhaps most importantly, Nancy taught me how to love a father. To her, my grandfather Gordon wasn't just a man; he was a superhero. She revered him with a devotion that stayed with her until her final day. Watching that bond shaped my own journey into fatherhood. My greatest hope is that one day, Scottie looks at me with even a fraction of the admiration my mother had for her dad.

Nancy is survived by her son Jon and his wife Erica, and her granddaughter, Scottie, who will undoubtedly grow up hearing stories of her grandmother's sharp wit and even sharper debates.

Nancy didn't do 'traditional,'' she left us exactly as she lived: on her own terms. She will be missed.
