Nancy Gertrude Tilford Downey was born in Bayville, New York where she enjoyed her childhood. Later after finishing her education she relocated to Upstate New York in the Finger Lakes region. There she raised three wonderful children, Kerry Lynn, Kraig Lawrence and Keith Loring. She worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service in Auburn and Union Springs NY. While her children were her pride and joy, she enjoyed many outside interests including her love of history which resulted in her arduous work with the Frontenac Museum, the Frontenac Historical Society and a lifelong love of antiques and genealogy. She was a lifelong member of Eastern Star and her work with the local chapter of Rainbow Girls which earned her the recognition of Grand Cross of Color. She volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Rod & Gun Club and Girl Scouts assisting her children and children's friends where needed. After retiring, she moved to Florida to be closer to her children and ultimately volunteered with Gulfside Hospice of New Port Richey. She loved her animals and was adept at many different types of crafts, including cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting. She was a mom's mom who loved to cook and preserve fruits and vegetables. Anyone needing pickles would just need to ask Nancy and several jars were heading their way. She is predeceased by her son Keith L. Downey and his daughter Nancy Lee Downey, and her niece Kelsey Lynn Downey. Nancy passed away peacefully in New Port Richey, Florida. She is survived by her daughter Kerry Lynn Rice (David), her son Kraig L. (Cheryl) and grandchildren Brett Rice and Kraig Downey II. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great grand children. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Interment will be at the family burial plot in Bayville New York at a later date.
