Nancy Carol (Meservey) Eldridge, 89, of Harwich, devoted wife, mother, and caregiver to her family and animals, walked home with Jesus on February 9, 2026. Nancy was born to George D. and Clara M. (Gray) Meservey, Sr, on May 17, 1936. She attended the Harwich Schools.
At a very young age, it became apparent that Nancy was an avid horse, dog, and basically all God's Creatures, big and small, biggest advocate! Growing up riding with her dad and sister, Sally, she became more than just a rider. Her passion for horses grew as she got older and she began showing. She was a very accomplished rider, winning many ribbons and trophies, but it did not stop there! She also bred and raised Quarter Horses and Appaloosas that also were in the winner's circle!!
Nancy also bred and raised German Shepard Dogs! Nothing gave her more joy than caring for her family and her beloved animals! Goats, ducks, chickens, cows, cats, rabbits, a pet pygmy pig... etc. she was devoted to them all!
Other than family and her pets, Nancy enjoyed gardening. Canning green beans and pickles was a few of her specialties. Nancy loved being outdoors and enjoyed all that God's Nature had to offer! She also, in her downtime, began to read more. Her Bible and becoming closer to God became a daily habit.
As life passed, she took up sewing. She made quilts and then moved on to stuffed ducks that she made clothes for and an Angel Bear, as well. But, through it all, just like at her beginning, she cared for animals. In her later years it gave her so much joy feeding carrots to the wild rabbits under her shed, feeding the Wild Turkeys and birds! As often as possible, her daughter, Cindy, took her to her niece, Laurie's barn to see the horses.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara Meservey, Sr, her sister, Sally Hutchins, Granddaughter, Amy (Eldridge) Richards, Grandson, Wes Eldridge, and a Great Granddaughter, Dakota Washington, California.
Nancy leaves behind her daughters, Cindy (Eldridge) Bassett and husband Jason,
Harwich, MA, daughter, Sheri (Eldridge) Scandlen and husband, John, Dennis, MA and son, Lee Eldridge, Texas! She also leaves behind 7 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren, her brother, George Meservey Jr of Chatham, MA and many nieces and nephews!
Though we may not see her, her light will shine on in our hearts with all the love she brought into our lives, the life lessons she taught us, her kindness, and the laughter and memories that can never be replaced! You will surely be missed but never forgotten! We Love You!
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, from 10am-11am, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 678 Main Street Ext,
Harwich, MA. A service will be held at the funeral home at 11am. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery,
Harwich, MA.
The family invites those who are attending the service to wear jeans (Nancy loved her jeans!) and wear a blue or western style shirt. This is optional though it would be appreciated.
