Nancy Hoke Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Nancy Ann Hoke, 84, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 12th, 2025. She was born in Beaver Falls, PA, on June 29th, 1941, to George and Alice Mary (Wilson) Breneman.

Nancy graduated from the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. She was very proud to be a graduate of the Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. Nancy served as a Registered Nurse specializing as a pediatric and charge nurse at the Chambersburg Hospital for over 14 years. She worked as an Elementary School Nurse with the Chambersburg Area School District for 26 years where she said she was blessed to work in many schools with many students and teachers each year. She truly loved working with kids and was touched if people would say hello when they saw her out in the community. She returned to school and graduated from Wilson College with her Bachelor's degree and Shippensburg University with a Master's degree in Community Counseling. This allowed her to work in private practice as a counselor/psychotherapist. Nancy also served and volunteered with many groups over the years including the Cumberland Valley Mental Health Center, Project Concern, Chambersburg Insight, Chambersburg & Franklin County Women's Clubs, Kindly Canines, and with others as well as with various groups within Park Avenue and St. Paul United Methodist churches. Nancy enjoyed time with family, travel with Gene, spoiling the family's dogs, writing poetry, and creating short stories. After turning 50 years old, Nancy found a new hobby and became an accomplished quilter. She loved to share her joy of color, designs, and sewing with others. She always told her family and friends to use the quilts knowing they were made with love.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert E. (Gene) Hoke. She has three daughters: Sherry (Vincent), Debra (James), and Julia (Michael); a sister G. Jean Brothers; a nephew Christopher; nine (9) grandchildren: Alexander, Matthew (Victoria), Sarah (Alain), Patrick (Kayla), Luke (fiancée Annie), Allison (fiancé Jordan), Hannah, Emily, and Daniel, and eight (8) great-grandchildren along with extended family she and Gene truly love as their own. Nancy enjoyed many family reunions with her cousins and time with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Alexander.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 11:30 AM, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30AM, prior to the service. The service will be live-streamed on the St. Paul UM YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/live/k3i6PC2MGTY?si=FpnpURlZHn9RNNh6 .

Gene and family, my deepest sympathies to all of you at this difficult time. I worked with Nancy at Falling Spring Elementary. She was the best school nurse, always put students first, and taught me so much! May her soul rest in the peace of our Lord and Savior. I will keep all of you in prayer

My sincere condolences to Gene and the family. Nancy was a dear sweet lady that we were fortunate to call our friend. I was in Kindly Canines with Nancy and Gene and truly enjoyed our time together. May your fond memories carry you through these difficult times.

Nancy was such an inspiration to me. I worked with her in the school district, and she definitely loved the children. She was such a heart warming person.
