GREENVILLE -- Nancy Jackson. On December 10, 2025 Nancy Jackson of Greenville, Ohio, went to be with and SEE her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Nancy was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 18, 1944 to Philip and Ruth Jackson.
Although blind from infancy, Nancy became a well-educated learner and teacher. She graduated from Newton Massachusetts High School in 1962. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Brandeis University in 1966. She later moved with her mother, to Saint Louis, Missouri where she attended Washington University, receiving a Master of Arts degree in Sociology in 1969 and a PHD in Sociology in 1974. While at Washington she became acquainted with classmates who were Quakers.
From that experience, Nancy and her mother moved to Richmond, Indiana in 1974 to enable Nancy to attend the Earlham School of Religion, where in 1979 she received a Masters in Ministry degree with a thesis of "Meeting Silence: the Religious Uses of Group Silence" While in Richmond, Nancy became a member of the First Baptist Church of Richmond, where she taught adult Sunday School and sang in the choir. She attended Bible Study Fellowship in Richmond for many years. She was also a member of the Richmond Emmaus Community for a number of years, giving a presentation on "Life in Piety". Nancy also taught the Bethel Series Bible Program. Professionally, Nancy became an adjunct professor, teaching at Indiana University East, classes in Religion and Sociology from 1979 to 1984. For the past thirty years she has resided at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.
She became a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren, where she was active in worship and Bible studies, also singing in the choir. She often accompanied the singing by playing her flute. Nancy greatly enjoyed music, playing an autoharp and a flute and writing and singing many Christmas and Easter songs It was said of her that she knew the words to "every" hymn. Although blind, Nancy was an accomplished knitter, making large afghans with complicated, multiple patterns.
She is survived by her sister, Janet (Charles) Keller of Ann Arbor, Michigan and a niece, Brittany Keller of Montana. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and a nephew, Toren Keller.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Greenville Church of the Brethren, 421 Central Avenue, Greenville, OH on Thursday, December 18, 2025, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. immediately followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steve Short presiding. Burial will be in Abbottsville Cemetery, 4135 SR 49, Arcanum, OH.
