Nancy McIntosh (née Mavity), age 81, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at home in Lisbon, Maryland. Born on May 12, 1944, in
Lafayette, Indiana, she lived a life marked by compassion, service, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Nancy graduated as valedictorian from Buffalo High School in Indiana in 1962. She went on to pursue her calling in nursing, earning her degree from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis in 1965. Her career as a nurse spanned several decades and touched countless lives. She served at Baltimore County General Hospital and the Howard County Health Department before continuing her work as a home health nurse with HomeCall in Westminster. Nancy concluded her professional journey at the Medical Center at Leisure World in Silver Spring, where she retired after years of dedicated care.
Throughout her life, Nancy was a nurturing presence not only to her patients but also to everyone around her. She was the constant nurse and mother-always giving of herself with kindness and strength. Her love extended far beyond the walls of any hospital or clinic; it was felt deeply by those who knew her.
Nancy shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Peter McIntosh Sr. Surviving in addition to her husband are her three sons: Peter McIntosh Jr. (Jamie) and his wife Christine Hajek; Eric McIntosh and his wife Jody; and Carey McIntosh and his wife Kathleen. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Kayleigh McIntosh, Kaitlyn Kauffman, Kendall McIntosh, Jerren Spencer, Nolan Spencer, Colleen McIntosh, and Sean McIntosh. She also held close bonds with her niece Jaci Bartel and family, nephew Steve Mavity and family, as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul E. and Ruth M. Mavity; her brother Paul G. Mavity; and sister-in-law Patsy Mavity.
Nancy's home was welcoming, often scented by baked goods, to include her signature rhubarb crunch, and filled with the steady sound of one of her five sewing machines as she made clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and preserving what she grew, canning apple butter, applesauce, green tomato mincemeat, and other foods from her garden and orchard.
She spent many years sewing and embroidering, using those skills to make clothing and other items for family members. Nancy also enjoyed cooking with her grandchildren and watching the birds outside her window, finding contentment in these everyday moments.
For over fifty-five years, Nancy was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Poplar Springs. Her faith guided every aspect of her life. At St. Paul's she taught Sunday School, served as Registrar for the Vestry, sang in the choir, made crafts and helped organize annual bazaars, assisted at pancake suppers and lasagna dinners, and volunteered tirelessly at the church thrift shop.
Nancy was devoted in her faith and will be remembered for her strength while being loving, caring, and kind. Always giving of herself.
