Nancy Louise Niebuhr, age 72, of Brighton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born on September 22, 1953, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Sylvester and Mary Ann Markee. She grew up in Marshfield and gradated from Columbus High School before earning her degree in education from St. Norbert College. In 1990, Nancy and her family moved to Michigan, where she build a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and flowers.
On November 5, 1977, Nancy married the love of her life, Kerry Lee Niebuhr, and together they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose gentle strength and caring spirit touched everyone she met.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Kerry; her daughters, Vanessa (Daniel) Smith, and Melissa (Jerry) Niebuhr; and her four beloved grandchildren: Donald Smith, Colton Beerens, Jaeden Niebuhr, and Kerry Beerens. She is also survived by her five siblings: RObert (Laurel) Markee, Carol (Albert) Bourcier, Janet (the late David) Kuyouth, James (Janice) Markee, and Mary (Charles) Perkins,
Nancy took great pride in her grandchildren and never missed a chance to cheer them on or hear about her latest adventures. A passionate gardener, she carried on her mother's love of flowers and created stunning garden beds that brought beauty to every season. She was also a lifelong cat lover, joyfully adopting and caring for many feline companions throughout the years.
Known as the glue that held her family together, Nancy's nurturing guidance, humor and willingness to help-whether cooking and baking for her family and friends or helping picking 25 pounds of green beans- were constant reminders of her generous heart.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home in Brighton, Michigan on Thursday, November 13. Visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Funeral service at 12:00 PM.
Nancy will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her, but her love and light will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
-John 14 1-3
"My life has been a tapestry
Of rich and royal hue
An everlasting vision
Of the ever-changing view
A wond'rous woven magic
In bits of blue and gold
A tapestry to feel and see
Impossible to hold"
-Tapestry by Carol King
