Nancy A. Nunemacher, R.N.

Nancy A. Nunemacher, R.N., 89, beloved mother, gram, gigi and sister, of Tamaqua, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Tamaqua.

Born on Monday, Feb. 17, 1936, in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Robert Curtis Knepper Sr. and Alma E. (Tuckett) Knepper.

A Tamaqua High School graduate, Nancy earned her R.N. from the Reading School of Nursing and retired from the former Coaldale State General Hospital and St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, after 40 plus years of service.

A devout member of St. John U.C.C. of Tamaqua, Nancy was awarded St. John's highest award, being bestowed the title of Elder Emeritus. She also worked with the kitchen crew of the church, catering church and community events, and was a member of the Hometown Senior Citizens.

Surviving are daughters, Terry Jo Matula, and her fiancée, Brian Furedi, and Patti A. Gregory, with whom she resided, both of Tamaqua; sisters, Alma R. "Suzie" Herring and Jean Purcel; grandchildren, Angela Kalchick, and her fiancée, Jason Benner, Michelle Perhonitch, and her husband, Nick, and Jeremy Gregory; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by a brother, Robert C. Knepper Jr.; great-grandsons, Christopher Flores and Jordan Michael Smith; and a grandson-in-law, Nick Kalchick.

Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, St. John U.C.C., 150 Pine St., Tamaqua, with the Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy officiating. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua. Call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in the church.
