Nancy Pace Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2026.
Salt Lake City, UT- Nancy K. Pace had many distinctions in her lifetime – an honors graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, a small business owner, served on the S.L. Board of Adjustments, elected to the Salt Lake City Council and served on the University of Utah's Board of Trustees – the only non U of U graduate to serve. If you were ever to ask her though, the role she loved most was being a mother.

Born in Madison, WI in 1942, Nancy Krieger moved at the age of 12 to the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia, later attending the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Sociology – training that would serve her throughout her lifetime. She married John Pace during college, and they began their family. Following his military service, they settled in SLC which she fully embraced as her home. Early volunteer work with the Junior League and with St. Mark's Episcopal Church led to a lifetime of community engagement and service.

Her community exposure while working to remodel, open and run The Brigham Street Inn – a unique, 4-star executive hotel, led to many subsequent positions within local arts and civic groups, and eventually to successfully running for public office. While serving on the U of U Board of Trustees, she was elected to the Salt Lake City Council. Later she remained engaged working in the Mayor's office, with The S.L. Convention and Visitors Bureau and DCFS.

While Nancy was committed to serving her community, there were so many other aspects of her life that brought her joy, including enjoying the natural beauty of Utah's mountains and deserts, working in her garden and her love of animals.

Nancy cherished her adopted home in Salt Lake, highly valued her community connections, her network of dear friends, and her sense of humor. She will forever be remembered for being two sides of a coin – strict yet playful, strong yet caring, demanding yet appreciative – and always a mother.

Nancy will be missed most by her children & family who loved and cared for her; Jeff & Katia Pace (Terra & Andrew), Todd Pace & Elena Wealty (Seday & Zola), Chris Pace, Sarah (Pace) & Robbie Hardman and John Pace.

Always giving back to her community, Nancy chose to donate her body to the U of U's medical school for study and research. There will be a family service at St. Marks Cathedral in the summer to celebrate Nancy.
