Nancy Pennington Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on Mar. 8, 2026.
Nancy A. Pennington entered eternal glory on January 31, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born on February 16, 1931, in Gastonia, North Carolina to Beverly M. Craig and Estelle Long.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Eugene W. Pennington; brother, Kenneth Craig and sister, Betty Cauthen. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Curtis Pennington and daughter-in-law Vlieta Pennington, grandchildren John Pennington and Cait Dunn, grandson-in-law Jefferson Dunn, great grandchildren Jax, Gray, and Mason Dunn; brother, Richard Craig and sister-in-law, Janette Craig.

Nancy traveled from North Carolina to San Antonio, Texas in the summer of 1951 courtesy of the Southern Baptist Convention to work in Vacation Bible Schools in the San Antonio area. While there, in God's providence she met Gene Pennington and the two fell deeply in love. She returned at the end of the summer to North Carolina where she attended Wake Forest University. Gene was soon off to Korea with the US Army. Nancy completed her studies at Wake Forest in 1953 just as Gene completed his service in Korea. They were married in September 1953 in Gastonia, North Carolina then returned to San Antonio to begin their long journey together.

Nancy followed her lifelong calling to service, teaching mostly first grade and Sunday School classes of all ages over the years. Always a singer, she lent her fine alto voice to many church choirs and the Singing Women of Texas. A passionate artist, Nancy was also a member of the River Art Group in San Antonio and regularly exhibited there in La Villita.

A graveside service will be celebrated at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved Gene.
