It is with profound sadness that Nancy's family and friends announce her passing on October 22, 2025 and celebrate her life well lived.
Nancy was born in Swarthmore, PA to William McCabe Harvey, Sr. and Frances Turner Harvey (Allison). She graduated from Springfield High School and went on to earn degrees from Lankenau Hospital School of Technology, the University of Colorado Boulder, the University of Southern Colorado and Western State College.
Nancy's career choices reflected her wide-ranging interests, skills and curiosity. Her professional career spanned more than 40 years as a medical technologist, health care administrator, business consultant, agriculturalist, real estate broker, horse trainer and entrepreneur.
Colleagues admired her professionalism, fairness and sharp mind, while friends and family cherished her warmth, kindness, generosity and sense of fun.
With interests as eclectic as her professional path, Nancy loved training and riding horses and spent countless hours mentoring young riders and sharing her love of horses. She truly loved and treasured her horses, Sassy and Trifecta, as well as her smaller constant companion Ziggy. In addition, she enjoyed traveling, collecting indigenous art and jewelry, quilting, cooking and baking. She embraced outdoor adventure, from skiing and tennis to snorkeling, swimming and windsurfing.
Active in her community, Nancy participated in the Mesa County Medical Society Alliance, the Daughters of the American Revolution and equestrian programs such as the Mesa County Sheriff's Posse, Gymkhana and Harmony Acres Equestrian Center.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Wendell M. "Del" Petty; her parents; and her brothers William McCabe Harvey, Jr., and Richard Turner Harvey. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Harvey Bixler (Curtis) of Selbyville, DE. and Jane Harvey Dane (Andrew) of Salisbury, MD; her aunt, Harriet Turner Strong of Evanston, Il; six nieces and nephews as well as extended family.
A private service will be held oceanside and the Whaley Family Cemetery in Whaleyville, Maryland. Friends are encouraged to honor her memory in ways she would have loved - by gathering together, sharing stories and celebrating life.
The family is deeply appreciative and extends heartfelt gratitude to Nancy's many dear friends for the love, care and companionship shared during her illness.
In keeping with the legacy she and Del created, Nancy helped establish student scholarships through the Western Colorado Community Foundation. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Dr. W. M. and Nancy Petty Scholarship Fund.
Nancy's memory is indeed a blessing to all whose lives she touched and to those who loved her dearly.
